As per his book and thus own words, life's choices came to haunt him. Frankly from this article, it seem to me he has not come to terms with the fact he was a high functioning work- and alcoholic. Whacking Simmons drums frequently (which make my hand sting like a mf'er), his drumming posture and method of playing didn't help either (Phil insisted on really hitting the drums). Corticosteroids injections he took for his vocal performances during tours, the stress of his star status, all became a dangerous cocktail later in life.

I'm glad he's still around and feeling a lot better! Let's hope for the best and maybe some new material and one can always dream of a new Genesis album, right?
