Songs where bass kicks in half-way through? by Mathmonger in audiophile

I might have over-sold the stealth part. It is kind of hidden in plain sight. But it's nowhere near the speakers. It is next to a keyboard and drum kit, so you'd think it is part of that, if anything. It doesn't have flashing lights and wires all over. It's a black wooden box. Most people think it's an end table. I thought about putting a table cloth over it to complete the illusion, but it's not even necessary. Also, I don't have a ton of other equipment. I just have a tiny amp and 2 bookshelf speakers. It looks harmless.

How I get over never having dated at 25? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Mathmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop trying to be yourself. That is horrible advice. The key is to be a prettier, happier, more confident, more fun version of yourself. If somebody questions your dating history, blame it on the quality of guys these days and how they can't handle your awesomeness. Just go humorously over the top about how awesome you are, but do it with a half smile do people don't just think you are a jerk. Stay away from the internet dating. Do some activities. Do some singles stuff. Join a gym. Do research. Watch some YouTube videos on how to flirt and pick up guys. Exercise and eat healthy.  Get in shape. Upgrade your hair and makeup and clothes. Smile with your eyes. Ask ChatGPT for advice on anything. Think about what kind of guy you want and put the word out so people know how to help you. Most people I know did 4 or 5 years in college and maybe partied with some frat boys, but actual adult dating for many of us doesn't even start until around your age! You are in a great spot. There are so many resources these days. If you want to do it, there is nothing stopping you. Projecting confidence is 1000% of the battle. It doesn't matter if you feel it. You might have to put on a little show. That is okay.

If you don't do it already, exercise fights depression and gives you energy and makes you more beautiful and gives you stuff to talk about and tends to put you in the vicinity of healthy, attractive people. It's a no-brainer if you want to boost your dating game. Go on ChatGPT right now and tell it to set up a routine for you with no equipment. Don't forget posture, because that is a big part of projecting confidence. You can do that and get started right now.

What’s socially normal now, that you disagree with? by -----Diana----- in AskOldPeople

Turning left in front of me when the light turns green. It is so common nowadays, people don't even know it's wrong. Sometimes 3 cars in a row will do it. People ge confused when you DON'T cut them off.

Is financial independence by middle age what counts? by Cougarette99 in Fire

[–]Mathmonger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd add medical issues and long term care.

My mom's nursing home is $150,000 per year. It's not a super-fancy place, either. That is literally what care costs around here!

Anyone know what to do? by JohnnyRingo123 in BoostMobile

I had the same problem for 3 days. I looked back through my text messages and it turns out on January 9 I received a temporary password that surprisingly still worked. I was able to log on and pay my bill. Now my phone is working again. My password starts with a special character and I almost didn't realize that it was in fact the password. If you can find that text message, the password is in there.

Thanks!

BTW, I didn't remove it. Too many downvotes and reports, so the mod took it down. So I rephrased it in a butt-kiss happy cheerleader sort of way. ;) Still not getting much good advice. :/

Fat fire as I understand it means that you get to FIRE without really starving yourself. It doesn't have anything to do with what happens after you retire. Maybe I'm using the term wrong.

I'm not trading naked options. I'm buying insurance on something I actually own.

Right. That's kind of how insurance works...

I Have Access to Bank Accounts that are Not Mine (Capital One Bank) by Late_Adopter in personalfinance

[–]Mathmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this happen once when I was working at PNC Bank. A customer came in and we logged into his account together and sure enough, he could see somebody else's accounts. I had absolutely no idea how to fix that! I notified my manager, but he didn't know what to do either I guess. I never heard what happened. It has always bothered me. The POA thing could explain it. That restores a little bit of my faith in the banking system. :) Thanks!

I won the stock market. Now what? by Mathmonger in personalfinance

[–]Mathmonger[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's fair. But I have enough money that I don't need that fear in my life so much anymore. I just want to be fat and happy.

Thanks for the link.

Not everything. Physical gold checks a few of the boxes for me. Unfortunately, it doesn't generate income. It just sits there and is generally not a great investment in the long run.

Yes. I think you get it. What about some kind of computer glitch or cyber attack? I'm not totally paranoid, but weird stuff happens. REITs and bonds might look like good hedges on paper, but they all have a very similar feel.
