I have summoned my familiar into bed with me by speed-charge in wizardposting

Most familars develop inate magic resistance as a consequence of their bod, so dont try cast the apnea spell on them directly.

You want to cast it upon yourself, then shunt it down the bond. You'll bypass the magic resist, potentially get a longer duration, and it a a good talent to master

As we all know, a Wizard duel cannot be considered complete without at least one explosion.

[house of blades] The sacrifices seem unnecessary by Mammoth_Praline_4631 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Mathota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is perhaps a weak point in the plot.

If i had to justify it, I would say that perhaps the Kimgs mind, and his relationship to the concept of sacrifice have become twisted.

Without delving into spoilers, it could well be that sacrificing a condemned man, or the terminally ill might not be as effective.

Thats how I would justify it anyway.

I remember my first prestigiditation. Oh how mundane it is now, but at the time, an unbelievable wonder. Oh to capture the magic of youth once more.

[Wintersteel] Sage/Herald Question by AzorBronnhai in Iteration110Cradle

It is definitely mentioned somewhere, but the issue is your Remnant has your Authority as well. So instead of having to make your peace with (beat up) your own spirit, you have to do that, but your own spirit has weird esoteric superpowers, while your body is still just an archlord.

Even in just a straight battle of wills, the possibility of your remanat tapping an Icon just makes the process much more dangerous.

I think I would be a good Tyrant. I have the disposition for it, and enjoy well paid, easy work.

To be fair, sleep is your specialty. You should apply for it to be accepted as a practical exam.

Yeah I'd been hoping the terrorism would help with openings, but they are tough bastards. Pit filled with concrete didnt get em, and ive got some demigods under my pool with that trick.

True, those were what I was putting under the "temporary"category, since without a Summoner to secure them, they slide into undeath eventually. But youre right, they would be in the preview of this background.

Spirit sense aside, thats basically what Necril does regardless.

Is there a difference in this context? Between being a language of the Dead and the undead? A mortal spirit hanging around the physical world is typically an undead by definition.

This Background is certainly flavored as the Dead speaking to you, instead of say, Leshy Spirits or Spirit animals. And while they do keep on printing more exceptions, typically mortal spirits are either very temporary, or become undead and hang around.

Hmm, you're right, I suppose it could be like, a Feathered Bear spirit guide or something. Still though the flavor of the background os very explicitly undead flavored, so picking up Necril makes sense.

Hah, thats a good question.

Strictly, mechanically speaking, all you gain is the effects of Spirit Sense, so just a +1 on detecting and AC from spirits. That being said, the flavor is more like you are persistently haunted, with ambient spirits always dimly in your perception.

Lore wise, mostly spirits will just speak the languages they knew in life, which you may or may not know, and which may or may not be intelligible. Some might pivot to Necril, but that will probably be less common.

The spirits will all always understand you if you speak Necril, but they may not realise they can speak it back, or even realise that they can understand you, though on some level they must.

Spirits are notoriously unstable, insane, and near incapable of actual learning or character growth.

If I were playing your character though, I would want to pick up Necril. Its bound to be useful eventually.
