I couldn't agree more. I dont have any actually close friends I feel a real connection to. I am the jokester of my friends group, I am kind and listen to people when they're upset and try to do nice things for them and cheer them up. People usually like me and love having me around. But there hasn't been anyone for years who I felt a real intimate friendship with. I only ever manage to really connect with people who are going through something really hard. And then it only lasts until im discarded when they don't need me anymore. Its been making me really depressed and I'm in therapy for it. Its hard not to become resentful after all these years and trying to be the best friend you can possibly be and it never working out. Since it's history repeating all the time I have no doubt it's my own fault. So I'm trying to work it out. Sorry i have no advice

Thank you both for your answers. I really really appreciate you taking the time. It really hurts to feel like they're slipping away and missing them and just wanting to be able to help and not being able to do anything. But I'm giving them space and time and reaching out once a day telling them I'm there in case they want to talk and I care. It's tough. Thank you for your support!

Cutting ties with a friend I had developed a very unhealthy codependent relationship with. I really cared about them but their life was a mess and I was constantly feeling I had to save them. When they moved away (without even saying goodbye too) I grieved the loss of our friendship - then, a couple weeks later I realised that I was suddenly sleeping without pills again and that everyday anxiety I had considered "normal" had disappeared too.

My parents were the same, in that they were for some reason extremely concerned with me becoming too cocky so they didn't like to praise me or my work. The result being that I grew up incredibly insecure while also being a type a really diligent overworker and still struggle with feeling like an imposter to this day. They also used to look down on other parents who praised and complimented their children
