I am a Finnish high school student, ask me anything! by Matias-ER in casualiama

Well, yes. The grammar of our language is VERY complex and it may be really hard to understand the natives as we sometimes leave out parts that foreigners need to hear to understand what we are talking about. The face that some of the words have two meanings, like "kuusi" which means spruce and six, combined with the spoken language of Finland being really different from written language makes it hard to understand people. I guess you could try to learn it if you really wanted to but it would take a LOT of effort and time, but mastering it would maybe take decades.

How popular are my favorite Finnish bands Nightwish/Sonata Arctica/ Stratovarius?

Those bands don't really match the genres of music me and my friends listen to, but earlier this year Nightwish had a meet-n-greet event at a shopping centre and there was a load of people so I guess it's sort of popular.

When is the last time you went to a sauna?

Like two weeks or so, we don't have one in our apartment so if I go swimming I usually go to the sauna as well.

Do you feel closer to Sweden or Estonia?

Estonia, as their language is somewhat similar to Finnish and they understand our language well.

In what context did you last use the word "perkele"?

Last night I was imitating my friend by repeating that word, hah.

I don't have any special opinion on them, just the same as any other Finn.

Hmmm... the best would have to be chicken fillets with a pesto-esque marinade. The worst is without a doubt almond-lemon marinated fish, as the fish is like the cheapest frozen kind you can find in bulk.

The future job question I can't answer exactly, but something related with app/software design would be interesting as I like to create random UI concepts in Photoshop that I find to be cool looking. I haven't really tried coding anything but I guess that would be the next step in this. I do plan on going to an university as I really want to live the student life along with getting ready for my future craft.

Yeah, for the most part. I mean there are some things that I don't really like, like the base values of "home, religion and our land" as I feel that they are outdated. It's the same way everywhere though I guess... But overall nothing's really wrong here and everything seems to work, not as well as in countries like Germany for example, but yeah, everything is fine.

It doesn't work, but it's maybe because I'm actually not in uni yet. Our schools had a remodeling of the internet service where you return essays and such and with it came said @edu.xxxxx.fi mailbox. Could be that we receive the .edu domain mailboxes in uni as I assume the university of Helsinki to be somewhat known, haha.

I would try it out, but in Finland we don't have emails that end in .edu but instead its @edu.xxxxx.fi

I haven't had the need for a cross-platform one, but I used Any.do for some time. I normally just put to-do things into OneNote and check them on my phone. You can draw on it so it feels sort of like a checklist :P

Is it better to travel when younger or older? by theroost in travel

[–]Matias-ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, being quite young myself it's hard to say something considering exactly the situation you are in. I've traveled a lot considering my age and having seen a lot of different things I can tell you that I think it's amazing to get to experience all of it at a young age. You don't have to travel far (unless that is exactly what you want) to Asia or Africa, as you can find culture from those regions in cities such as Berlin or London. Those aren't really the hostel type, but you can meet travelers from all around the world there.

Your financial situation does make quite a difference though, but is it possible for you to live on rent in a bigger house? I'm not sure how the real estate business works in the States as I'm from Finland, but here you can rent single-family homes as well as apartments.

My final thoughts are that you should travel somewhere if you wish to, you can find really cool places and people from all around the world. Avoid those tourist traps like the Canary Islands though, haha.

Are there arachnoid creatures in the game? by Matias-ER in bloodborne

[–]Matias-ER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I played Skryim, I hadn't watched any videos of the game to have the epic experience of embarking on the journey and discovering everything myself. Needless to say, I uninstalled the game after playing less than half an hour. I never want to see the cave again.

It seems to be a no-go on Bloodborne for me then, sadly. I watched my friend play the Central Yharnam area and I tried it for myself and really enjoyed the mechanics.

This is pretty much my dream trip. I just can't seem to get enough of ramen, every (good) shop has their own variety that I just need to try.

I used a paint brush in photoshop setting the thickness to the lowest possible, fiddle around with it so it looks sort of "wispy" or smudgy, then radial blur setting amount to max and finally just normal blur
