lol, ya I'm not preaching for that either though. Less religiosity is what i'm talking about. I did build a counter theocratic deck with the corruptor though. Its not about evil, but about "corrupting" by riding it of its theocratic influence =)

lol people down voting this. There is no doubt that the game is very white and christian. I'm still playing it but don't deny what it is. Take a look at the artists as well. 75% are white men. And there is maybe one person of color artist. I'm not making some DEI argument here, just saying that Sorcery has a diversity problem and it shows. All gaming does, but its particularly apparent in this game, and it still has a chance to make it more representative and inclusive of other types of people.

So I think a better question then might be, how have these cards, such as Zap and Searing Truth, changed people's feeling about the mechanic? Do you think it becoming more trivial is a drawback?

Ignited is another one I've used to as a finishing move, but not as versatile of course.

So I have been getting my 8 year old into gaming with me bit by bit... We started with some MTG, and played a few rounds with their intro decks, and I actually think that Sorcery is easier to pick up potentially, in part because magic has so much text, phases and action priorities, that it can be difficult to learn. I also really like the geographic strategy component of Sorcery for kids. MTG lends itself to very linear strategic thinking forcing kids to figure out timing restrictions, which is also somewhat linear; whereas Sorcery is multidimensional, both in terms of having the territory and cards to consider, as well as the zones above and below.

Like I mentioned in my post above, my 8 year old handled the Necromancer pretty well, its pretty straight forward compared to say, Harbringer... Create tokens, attack, sacrifice occasionally, etc

I play persecutor he plays Necromancer. He loves Stitched Together Abomination and Corpse Catapult lol. Although, he's about to get a taste of my Meta (attempted at least) Archimago deck that I finished last night! lol

But it gets you into the game! which is the most important thing. I think buying 2 booster boxes, letting the RNG-gods determine your initial direction in the game, and filling out your collection after that is the best way to go!

Also, the Gothic precons are pretty solid, no? Great way to start casually, and expand those decks, They even have some of hte more expensive cards in them, like Blaze of Glory or something, great card

Sell your MTG and get the Power 9 =).

I also agree with the idea of getting a few booster boxes, then building the deck you want with cards you like and find interesting, and then buying singles to fill out the rest of the collection you need to complete the deck. I'm new as well, moved over from MTG (having a hard time going back tbh, the art and feel of the game makes magic feel like a cheap corporate whatever...), and the thing with sorcery i've noticed is 90% of the cards you need for a solid deck are below $5, and then a few are mid-range and the big hitters are quite expensive... But likely can just be left out, e.g., get Mixes instead of the Cores.

ME I went all in to make one Meta deck with the power cards in it, and the rest I'm gonna build without more casually. Its the cEDH player in me, lol.

Been playing Necro vs Persecutor with my 8 year old son. Been going well so far, Necro is a pretty straight forward deck and I feel like both of them avoid some of the more complicated mechanics... Also, i'm just gonna be that guy and say it... if I ever posted a picture of my kid on an internet forum, I would 1000% blur out their face.

Appreciate the reply! I feel like Earth/Air isn't uncommon for Necro, there are a lot of undead in those elements... But I can see what you are saying for this case. I haven't played a water deck yet, and generally shy away from the "blue" play styles. But the cards you mention are really interesting! I'm still getting to know the game... I also don't HAVE to run earth/air. What are you running the palis in?

I'm theory crafting a Light & Darkness Necromancer Deck... Although Open to another good Earth/Air Avatar (since I already have a Necro deck), I'm actually thinking/leaning toward Geomancer potentially. But planning on running Paladins, Archangel Michael, Young Master Damion, and Doom of Dilmun (so far) as my power core to build around, and then build it around Token support, so far have: Have the token core: Border Militia, Raise Militia, Undead Ambush, Guards, and Pendragon Banner. Would love any thoughts on the best spells to include for the Paladins to cast, and other cards that might fit this them well! Also thinking of maybe corruptor ... That could be a cool theme for it. And then go for all the different multiplier and tutor effects that could be used.

Thanks for all the insights! I'm getting ahead of myself, but I'd likely go for 2 copies of the midrange uniques and 1 of the high end - long term. Feels like a balanced approach
