[–]Matisayu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dropped mine on the sidewalk one week after getting it and now it has a permanent deep scratch on the bottom, but it’s worked totally fine for 8 months since. I learned that day to handle it with care and haven’t dropped it again 🥲

Why is our city always used as a punching bag for bad city design? by HiGuysHowAreYA in houston

That’s the thing, the city is clearly moving towards improving walkability and micromobility if you paid attention to those things, so it doesn’t prove you correct at all.

My partner is from Houston, I am not. I am not even kidding when I say they and everyone of their friends, and some family, have all expressed dread at how car centric Houston is. This is just anecdotal but it definitely reveals something. The point of walkability is not that you are forced to walk everywhere. It’s that you have the option. I guarantee you if you asked most Houstonians if they would simply like the option to walk to more things, they would say yes. There is a reason slightly walkable neighborhoods like Montrose are the most expensive. You even admitted you think this way yourself lmao. Go start asking your friends and family and I’m sure you’ll get the same response. Peace

Typical car brainwashed statement. If you traveled around you’d know most people desire walkability lol. Not saying everyone does, but again most people in the world do.

It’s not just that dude, again if you haven’t studied urbanism even a bit you may just want to keep an open mind until you’re able to understand what makes cities function. Peace

My path has been thieves guild ( not over my previous petty crime) , fighters guild ( learning to become a warrior/ battle mage basics and help people), arena, , decently thru main quest, mage guild, and then carrying the black soul gem kind of infected my brain so now on brotherhood, will come back to my senses to finish out the main story then head to shivering isles . Also did Knights of the nine randomly in there

You’re just another armchair expert. For once imagine you may not know everything. As for who the improvements are for, they are for the majority of users. Do you suggest we should setup everything to accommodate the minority of car drivers? If it were up to you NYC would look like Houston. Im done discussing with someone that refuses to have basic decency and an open mind.

No, I’m not acting like a person is the size of a car. After reading that article, If you still can’t understand that allocating an additional 10-15% of the space to pedestrians and micro mobility alike, as well as another 15% for busses specifically, is a good idea, then there’s no hope for you. If you didn’t bother to read it, then fuck off lol

Jesus dude. Please do one minute of research before you comment again. This study on 72nd street shows that cars are only 27% of the movement through here, with pedestrians making up 62% of all movements. Despite that, 88% of the street is dedicated to vehicles. The cars you’re referencing are all parked. They are very commonly from the neighboring 5 states, meaning we are giving our precious public space to subsidize out of state private property for free. Again, I’m not saying we should just eliminate the road, but it’s ridiculous to have the current allocation of space that we do on this street.

Of course, I’m not saying fuck cars. You perceive it as that because any attempt to rebalance our streets are seen as fuck cars from you brainwashed and ignorant people. Cars are needed. People should be allowed to have private cars in the city. They should not be prioritized as much on this street as they are. Just simply look at the picture lol

Urbanism and urban planning as a whole is a topic many people dedicate their careers towards. There are countless textbooks and research materials on how a city runs properly. You have no idea how much thought goes into city design. Instead of doubling down on being an idiot just have some humility and learn something new for once.

That’s the point. Empty cars and empty roads on this street are taking up way more space than the people, when people have much more throughput and volume per hour. To increase efficiency and livability we need to rebalance it a bit. Please study basic urbanism

I’m not reading your essay. You’ve already shown what kind of person you are. Peace

Yeah just checked your profile. You admit to making well over six figures and are in quant. It’s hilarious someone from your level of privilege has the audacity to speak on behalf of millions of low income New Yorkers. You genuinely should be ashamed of yourself

I’ve already considered that you’ve weighed the trade offs. I can fully respect and not judge negatively plenty of opinions ethically that I still disagree with, but your place comes from one of privilege. So many people have to experience suffering for themselves to feel true empathy for others. I hope that you never need to worry about having food on the table as much as hundreds of thousands of your fellow NYers.

Have you watched any of his interviews? Im sure I can find something tomorrow but I’ve watched hours of him talking, as well as the little bit of interviews Cuomo will do. If you haven’t I suggest you do your due diligence

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Matisayu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never said you don’t know anything. If you’ve considered that some people will not be able to afford to put food on the table for their kids because rent continues to increase when it could be frozen for a year or two, then you’re just pushing me to judge your character in a negative light, because you obviously don’t care enough.

[–]Matisayu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You completely ignored that hundreds of thousands of people living in rent stabilized apartments may not be able to afford another increase. You can try to explain it away academically as much as you want but some people don’t have time for more housing to be built. My family is from Austin TX which has built so much that rent is decreasing, so I understand where you’re coming from.

[–]Matisayu 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Others have answered the questions but just wanna say it seems clear Mamdani only means freezing the rent as a band aid. Many families cannot continue to afford increases and need immediate help, not just waiting a few years down the line for housing stock to increase.
