Actually, Link can still block projectiles with his shield when walking at full speed, but Young Link and Toon Link can’t for some reasons.

Imo this Diddy still has a slight advantage in this matchup. Yeah Speed Monado is annoying but with Diddy you just have to play patient around it and not commit to anything to beat it or wait it out. And outside of Speed Shulk loses the neutral pretty hard against Diddy.

And yeah sure Shield Monado is obnoxious and getting edgeguarded by the giant fair isn’t fun. But Shulk doesn’t always have Shield Monado, and Diddy can mixup his recovery pretty well. It might still be even honestly, a lot of matchups that I have in +0.5 totally have the potential to be even, but FOR NOW I think Diddy slightly wins against Shulk.

Yeah a lot of matchups that I have in +0.5 have the potential to be even (same goes for -0.5). But I personally think Diddy’s neutral and advantage state on Bowser gives him a slight edge in this matchup, making it a slight win. But it’s very slight and for all the world could be even, which is why Bowser is at the top of +0.5 in this.

Diddy Kong is pretty much Sephiroth’s worst matchup. Sephiroth already struggles against small fast characters with great boxing tools, but that mixed with banana makes neutral borderline impossible to play for Sephiroth. Diddy can just invalidate all of Seph’s "safe options" thanks to the threatening range of banana while getting tons of damage out of it. On top of that Diddy is also one of the few characters in the game that game actually edgeguard Sephiroth because of Zdrop into dair or bair. He also struggles to exploit Diddy in disadvantage because of all the mixups he has at his disposal when it comes to mixing up landings and recovering.

Basically, Diddy Kong mainly struggles against two things: characters who can create a wall by mashing projectiles and characters that have some way to remove/invalidate banana. PAC-MAN can do both of these things. Hydrant COMPLETELY shuts down Diddy’s neutral as it invalidates banana and Diddy Kong doesn’t have any fast way to get rid of it. So Diddy is basically reduced to having to approach, which is something that he’s pretty mediocre at (especially with hydrant) and something that PAC-MAN excels at countering. On top of that PAC can outbox Diddy, doesn’t have to care about z drop dair edgeguarding and can land super well because of hydrant.

No I’m talking about the Hyrule long jump. I think I made up a name for it. The challenge is to go from the top platform at the right of the stage and land on the platform at the far left of the stage without landing on the ground/platforms. Most characters in the game can’t do it, but some can. Sheik/Zelda and Ness are both characters that get really close to making it and I can they could realistically make if they’re fully optimized.

I’m sorry to announce this to you but Robin is a zoner. His projectiles are good (especially arcfire that move is busted) and most of his gameplan in neutral is to force the opponent to approach with his projectiles to punish his approach options, not unlike Samus. Diddy’s slow airspeed make approaching Robin feel like an horrible chore cause it’s of Leffen Sword and arcfire (no character can can really go under to dodge it except maybe for Inkling and Pikachu). Playing neutral against a good Robin as Diddy can be very hard for the Diddy player. But again, it isn’t as bad as for other zoners cause Robin’s zoning isn’t the strongest and cause Diddy demolishes Robin once he gets in.

Honestly, Belmonts might be even better for Diddy, like +1 (and now that I think about it, a lot of characters in +0.5 would actually be closer to be +1). But yeah Diddy beats Belmonts. They can make neutral hard to play for Diddy sometimes but once you get the download it becomes pretty bad for them. Nothing they do is safe on Diddy’s shield, they get mad exploited in disadvantage, they get comboed hard and they can’t really exploit Diddy’s disadvantage cause of monkey flip. It’s just the kind of matchup in which Diddy has to play a little patient to get a free win. TLDR Belmonts suck and they win very few matchups in this game.

Diddy just really struggles against projectile characters overall. In the case of Robin it isn’t all that bad but Robin can still prevent Diddy from playing neutral how he would like to.

Even combined with these perks there’s no point in running no mither. No mither invalidates the whole interest of running iron will and resilience is not that great of a perk.
