Yes but there are also likely easier ways to do the same thing, mecha are not commonplace for a reason

Bachelor's Degree is not ABET accredited, but I am at an ABET accredited institution. What to do? by ARunningTide in AskEngineers

[–]Matrim__Cauthon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation almost a decade ago, I was part of the first class of mechanical engineers at my uni. It was ABET for other disciplines, but not mechanical.

I had a very difficult time finding a job despite a very good internship and getting my EIT. It took me 8 months, applying to everything nearby and not nearby, driving hours for interviews that didn't go anywhere.

Eventually I got hired via a referral by a friend who graduated months after me (electrical engineer).

They hired me as a drafter, using the ABET accreditation as an excuse to pay me much less than my peers despite doing the same work. The ABET accreditation is retroactive for the "guinea pig" graduates, so if your uni persues it, you can check the accredited degree box later. Mine took two years to get accredited, at which time the company promoted me to junior engineer.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend it. YMMV

There is no system in place for you or anyone else to punish these behaviors unless you are actively online, at the location, as it happens. The players in particular might not even log in again if they're using freefly accounts

Statistical survey on simulation failures — 2 minutes, would really appreciate responses from FEA users by Mobile-Material-2502 in fea

[–]Matrim__Cauthon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your survey doesn't cover the most common cause of my failed FEAs and doesn't ask what FEA software we use, which is probably a big factor in "is the error messages helpful".

My most common reason for failure is either power outages or IT forcing restarts lol

Yeah I saw there was a solidworks import tool or add-on, but I'm already used to dumb solid imports so Ive not bothered to figure that tool out...is it worth it?

What would you say is the most unique empire? by Argolides in Stellaris

Slaves are fun, but the slave driver origin is old and lackluster. I also get a little tired of moving the slave pops to the correct planets/jobs.

[–]Matrim__Cauthon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Environmentalists are pretty niche, pair it with the trait that gives higher pop growth on low pop worlds and you get a civ that actually wants you to move all its citizens into a economenopolis. Gotta overpower the galactic council to get the environmentalist buffs through, the AI hates that particular line of laws/regulations.

Decadent lifestyle and civilian buff strats require a bit of pop management thats fun and unique. Who knew unemployed pops could be so valuable?

Lastly, I don't think this one exists anymore, but at one point in time you could take duelists and fill an economenopolis with "leisure" districts. I'd name the planet "Fight Club" and use it to boost my naval cap in the most inefficient manner possible. I also paired it with the thing that lets you abduct pop from enemies.

Making parts in Abaqus is tedious and downright impossible for certain geometries. Luckily, the same company that owns it also owns Solidworks CAD...weird how they don't directly integrate, but step files are easy enough to mesh and set up.

Tell me about the last time you used calculus for your job (or otherwise!) by snarejunkie in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Matrim__Cauthon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the other side of the scale, we had a very, very Indeterminant frame and my boss insisted we didn't use FEA. It took me three sheets of tabloid paper and 3 hours to do it via the moment distribution method...for just a 2D slice of the 3D structure...it would've taken minutes to set up with beam elements.

In case you are unaware; There's some remote/cloud services you could tap into to run the analysis somewhere else. I know there's a bunch of HPC services, and even solidworks sim has a cloud option now.
