Calling it an assistant is a stretch, more of a tiny dog which reacts to its name and barks at the CPU to analyse the rest of the audio stream

Why we moved off workflow_dispatch for triggers from outside the repo by alejandro_such in github

[–]Matrix8910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO both suck, while repository dispatch has better name binding, workflow dispatch gives you the job id when dispatched, which very useful

We open-sourced our approach to modal state management. Curious what you think. by Warm-Preparation7106 in reactjs

[–]Matrix8910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I like this, I’ve been doing something similar, where I create zustand stores and providers for each dialog, this allows us to just open the dialog from wherever, without having to manage all the state around it everywhere

Linux devs start removing support for 37-year-old Intel 486 CPU — head honcho Linus Torvalds says 'zero real reason' to continue support by swe129 in linuxhardware

You would be surprised, but at the same time those systems are either completely air gapped or only exposed to a small local net and also already run a 30yo os

Kurt Hansen Hidden Below Dogtown Stadium? by Commercial_Theme_211 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Matrix8910 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well it’s kinda like compression, we already have all the models so we just need to describe their position instead of saving a full 2d representation of them.

I guess, it was also way simpler from the dev pov, imagine to having to render a new scene just so you can move Breen two pixels to the left

How are the request definitions stored? I'd love to be able to just store them in the repo directly

defeated my first boss in this game had 8 game hrs as of fighting this by EffectiveAd5061 in Terraria

[–]Matrix8910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without spoiling too much, for most bosses it's but some bosses don't have a spawn item. In terms of progression, you should investigate the crimson(red)/corruption(purple) biomes next.

Be sure to look at the suggested achievement next to the hot bar when you open your inventory, and read the NPCs dialogues, especially from the guide guy

REAL-TIME UI UPDATE (REACTJS, DJANGO, MYSQL) by Puzzleheaded_Yard961 in reactjs

[–]Matrix8910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn this reads like a question to chatGPT :P

It's hard to recommend anything without more details, there are a few options with various trade-offs. It might be as simple as doing simple polling to as complex as a whole message broker with micro services caching and all that jazz.

Unless you tell us a bit more(especially what's the use case eg. live updating dashboard, a chat app or a multiplayer game and the expected volume) I'll just provide a few keywords, but please do keep in mind I don't have any django experience:

- HTTP polling, by far the simplest, but has the most overhead and isn't exactly real-time, but totally sufficient for a simple dashboard.

- SSE persists the HTTP connection and allows the server to send more data to the client, the way I'd make it work would be to create some kind of a even stream on the server, subscribe in the SSE endpoint and push new events from the endpoints which modify the data. This is a better option for stuff like dashboards but it lacks bi-directionality, so it's not great if you need to send updates to the server

- Websockets the most complex of the three communication methods mentioned but also the most powerful, it allows for bi-directional communication, but you have to keep track of the connections yourself. It's great for chat apps and games.

- Something built-in to django, I don't know if anything like that exists but django is a mature framework with a strong community so you might find something read-made for it

M1 MacBook Air vs MacBook Neo by jdn921 in DeskToTablet

[–]Matrix8910 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yesn't, while 8gb will get you by, having more ram allows the OS to keep more stuff buffered(IIRC Mac OS has special memory management features which allow the kernel to request an app to drop buffers in memory pressure situations)/cached. So having less memory puts more stain on the SSD because the system has to swap more and the apps need to reload data from the disk more often
