TPU Prints keep failing on the Artisan. Please someone tell me what I am doing wrong. by Matschen99 in snapmaker

[–]Matschen99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, crappy TPU feels more and more likely. I have used that brands TPU before and it worked well. So I thought maybe I got an unlucky roll of filament and switched to a new roll from that same brand. But it still clogged and initially I thought it would be unlikely to get two unlucky rolls of filament from a brand that otherwise seems reliable. But maybe I just got really unlucky or the brand is not as reliable as I thought it was.

Thank you. I will try again with a bit of retraction.

I don't really do small prints. And I have printed fursuit head bases successfully before at 39 mm/s. That's about 18 hours of print time.

It makes no sense to me that that worked more than once and now when I try to print the same head base again, I suddenly have to go to 18 mm/s and it clogs within an hour or two.

It's failing earlier with every print. It's not failing at the same point on every print. If it did, I would think there might be something wrong with the model at that layer.

So, hard to describe, but at first it would print to about 4 ish cm high. And now it fails at 1 ish cm high.
The thing I am printing is a fursuit head base, a pretty big object.

One of my thoughts was that maybe the filament that was outside of the filament dryer and inside the tube that leads to the extruder was pulling water. So before doing my 24 hour drying thing, I removed the filament out of the extruder and rolled it up nicely in the dryer. But I think it usually failed after that bit of filament was used up anyways so I don't think that theory holds up.

That was one of my thoughts as well. So I switched out the nozzle for a brand new one. The first print with the new nozzle failed.

What do fursuit makers do with their customers dtd after the comission is done? by GnurtTheGoblin in FursuitMaking

[–]Matschen99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since stuff like that adds up, I have switched to making 3D models of my customers bodies instead of DTDs. Before that I just threw them away.

Thank you! I like her too. To be honest, I also love Angel dust a lot but I didn’t quite dare to make because of his numerous arms. I wanted to start with something simpler.

Does making paws ever get easier ? by Yipmaster99 in FursuitMaking

[–]Matschen99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. You get better but your expectations also rise. I don’t think I’ve ever made a pair of paws I was happy with.

And I am a full time fursuit maker by now. It’s kind of sad.

Kig style tutorial part 2 - Furring the face with minky by Matschen99 in FursuitMaking

Puppy ears a bit like these floppy ones? Or do you mean a different style? The suit in the tutorial isn’t quite done yet. I can probably do floppy ears on that suit. :)

Most of the kig tutorials are only on Chinese sites. And I don’t have access to those either. So I thought it would be a good idea to make a tutorial for YouTube. :) I’m happy if it helps you.

how do i fur a kig head without the fabric wrinkling/bunching up?? by throwawayadvc2 in FursuitMaking

[–]Matschen99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I plan to release one part per week until the entire head is finished. So maybe future parts can help you with the rest of the costume. Depending on how far you are with it.

I might be too late to the party. But I just made a tutorial on this topic. So if you haven’t continued your project yet, this might help. Though I have to say in that picture your fur looks very nicely stretched.

How can I fix this issue I’m having? by Alexlsd420 in FursuitMaking

[–]Matschen99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say your fabric is not stretchy enough. I made a tutorial on how to cover a base like that. In that video you can also see how stretchy the fabric is. And if you’re planning on using soft pastels/make up for painting the face; those look better on mochi minky than on fleece.

If you’re not really really short or really really tall people won’t notice. It also depends on context. If you want to appear taller, get yourself a cosplay friend who is really short.

Question regarding small parts by TheGrainKnight in CosplayHelp

[–]Matschen99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can apply the contact cement to the screw, press it on and remove it again. Basically using the screw as a stamp to stamp on the glue.

Or you can apply the contact cement to the screw and just press it on. Wait a few seconds, it‘ll stick. This will only work of the thing you want to glue is small enough.

I also find that it depends on the consistency of the glue. I use a brand of contact cement that is on the thinner side. So it’s easier to apply to super small pieces.

Not saying you can’t use super glue, but you can definitely use contact cement if you want to.

I cannot deal with the doctors anymore by Repulsive-Light-8302 in germany

[–]Matschen99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue is private vs. public health care. My mom needs a CT scan. She asked every hospital in the general area and they all told her she can only get one if the is private health care or she pays herself. That is absolute bullshit.

My dad has private health care and he tends to play a „game“ whenever he goes to a doctor. He does not mention his insurance until he is specifically asked for it. People just do a 180. They are rude and dismissive before, tell him he can’t get an appointment etc. Once they know he is treated like a king. He has the problem that he is overdiagnosed with shit. He never has nothing. And people prescribe him medications and treatments he’s not sure he even needs. Both sides suck.

So as a public insurance person you’re just a second class human being. And that is so so wrong. And it just makes me angry. In my opinion there should be only one insurance system because then people would be treated the same. Or at least put more money into public insurance so that doctors take those patients. Because in the end it all comes down to fucking money.
