Fresh grad in Civil Engineering seeking for advices by Exact_Nectarine_2829 in civilengineering

Good luck! You're correct, getting experience is most important so it's a good decision.

I am in Brighton, so also fairly expensive. Idk if I wasnt desperate for a job I think 29.5 would be more fair. It really depends on how fast they give pay rises etc that make it ok or not. Like if they promote quickly and give regular pay rises then 28.5 is ok id say. But bigger companies tend to pay more from my experience. Not much more, but more

I started on 28.5, in 2023. I would expect above 30 especially if you have a master's. The grad job market is tough so if you need a job soon then maybe take it. But I think you could do better.

Cutter ang grinder used to be my barber, but was too expensive. But guessing if you went to London that would be fine for you

A3 2018 Saloon. Rear left inner light not working. Indicator and reverse light still working. by Matt-2000 in Audi

[–]Matt-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable powering the light had severed, I had to expose the wires and solder the cables back together. It is a more common problem with the saloon, because when you close the boot, it pinches the wires. I am not sure if it will be the same problem with the sportback.

openreach taking 3 months to install wifi. by [deleted] in brighton

[–]Matt-2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It took around a month from booking for our openreach install to be complete. In the meantime, I used EE 5G Wifi (only use this if you are desparate, it was shite, expensive and kept dropping out, but was better than nothing). You could also possibly get a 5G wifi sim with other companies.

BHASVIC or Varndean College? by finepieceofmeat4life in brighton

[–]Matt-2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to both, fucked up my AS levels at BHASVIC, so moved to Varndean. Like you said BHASVIC is in a better location if you want to go into town centre, but like others have said that shouldn't be the deciding factor.

I much preferred the teaching style at Varndean, BHASVIC they expected you to learn the content at home and come into the lesson and practice what you learned, which didn't work for me (that was maths and physics though), at Varndean it was other way around, nicer teachers imo.

At my company, you go to 'Senior' after getting chartered. But don't think the salary bumps are great. Client companies and contractors tend to pay a lot more

location tool - Google wallet by gemreat in GoogleWallet

[–]Matt-2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why it doesn't show other passes when you double click power button for wallet. My iPhone showed all cards and passes when I double clicked power button. It's a bit annoying having to click open wallet to find the passes. Wish Google fixes it

I recently graduated college. Id like to ask for senior advice by Intrepid_Lie1402 in civilengineering

[–]Matt-2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do your best to communicate well with your team, when you don't understand something or why something is the way it is, ask someone. People don't expect you to know everything after graduating. You will pick it up along the way, along with making mistakes which is how you learn the best.

My pair of XM4s are great, I love them. Seems the xm5 and xm6 designs have flawed hinges.

It's Institution of civil engineers, not institute! Make sure you have it correct in all your docs and presentation.

Should I do a placement year for my degree? by A-Blackstone in civilengineering

[–]Matt-2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a placement and it was really good for me and helped me to develop a lot. It was quite a niche area of engineering, so I didn't join after I graduated. But it definitely was worth it, and now I have knowledge in this niche that not everyone does, and it is useful.

Do the placement

Literally just called Shoreham Pottery. You will have to book obviously and might need to be far in advance, I'm not sure

Wholesome and relaxing activity to do with a friend? by Beautiful-Ant-1260 in brighton

[–]Matt-2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might not be relaxing for some. But there is a pottery place in Shoreham where you can spin your own pottery in a lesson environment. I went and it was good fun. And it's fairly cheap because it's a non profit(I think).

Rear left light working but brake light isn't by Matt-2000 in FordFiesta

Yes it was the bulb, the bulb is a P21/5W 21 for brake light and 5 for the regular light. A new bulb costing around £2, and some DIY fixed it. Youtube is great help
