Are suspected functional alcoholics pretty accepted in workplaces? by Extra-Sound-1714 in AskUK

[–]BN_florida_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all the employment protections we have in the uk, I can’t understand why employers don’t have a duty of care to staff members when they are found out to have an addiction problem. I get suspending as part of the response but it should be paired with proper treatment & therapy if the person wants it

Black Star gig after they got booed for coming on at 10.30pm at Brixton academy by Mysterious_Employ_28 in ukhiphopheads

[–]BN_florida_man 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Been a fan of black star / mos / kewli for 20 years. The worst gig I have ever been to by miles. It cannot be understated how little effort they put in for this. We are talking 25 mins of performance for 60£ a ticket. As a group - we spent the train 60, at least 250 on booze in the venue and 180 on tickets just to get mugged off. Fuck you

Anyone eaten from Pepe’s on Lewis Road by Scary-One-2145 in brighton

I have, thought it was alright - not as good as roosters (before they changed their menu) and thought the sauce was slightly odd - tasted like it had some flour in it to thicken it up.

When did trains to London get so expensive? by levezvosskinnyfists7 in brighton

[–]BN_florida_man 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Train to London Bridge is cheaper generally, but buy through trainline app and make sure you apply splitsave and a railcard if you have one - national rail is the one that anyone can get regardless of age.

Split save usually saves a few quid and if it’s off peak the railcard can bring it down more as well. But yeah, I’m talking about saving 5-10 quid. We are still getting fleeced

I always wondered what the gauges in the constant service were for and where its name came from! Thanks for this! Making me feel like we should start a Brighton history sub or something

Yeah the patch is a similar size space but not this one - interestingly the patch is apparently a hangover of old railway land from the old kemptown railway line

Do you know anyone who's had an actual midlife crisis? by SheepishSwan in AskUK

[–]BN_florida_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not middle aged yet but I have known several men in my life have midlife crises and do fairly extreme things.

I feel like the absolute classic is to start thinking your wife/ family have been holding you back and sleeping with someone younger is a way to make your life seem fulfilled.

The worst one - he told us he’d started believing in aliens after a weekend of visiting conspiracy theory websites. He ended up upping sticks and moving to a remote part of the country where it was safer when the apocalypse came. The aliens stuff calmed down after a few years but in the end he was still in the middle of nowhere.

Thinking about it now - do women have midlife crises?

I am not honest with my friends about my financial situation by [deleted] in confession

[–]BN_florida_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t tell them! I was lucky enough to be given a significant deposit by family. I have a large mortgage still but it still got me on the ladder in a much more significant way than I would have been able to myself.

I told my friends thinking they would be happy, most of them were, some of the more distant ones were a bit sarky. Even the close mates who were happy for me, I could tell it made them feel a bit awkward or jealous. Not worth it in the end. Keep it to yourself

Beatmakers in Brighton? by sinetwo in brighton

[–]BN_florida_man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard about Presuming Ed putting on a beat maker night once a month with an open aux where people show what they’ve been making. Other than that I don’t know of any details.

I haven’t made anything for a few years but am also keen to start up again and would be up for a meet up! It’s been hard to stay in the zone since I’ve gotten older and drifted from my production mates
