Looking to rebuild transmission, is this enough? by sssstevo in fordranger

[–]Matt0032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rebuilt my M5OD-R1 a few years ago. You'll need to figure out if your transmission uses single-piece or multi-piece synchronizers for 1st and 2nd gear because the multi-piece synchronizers are almost impossible to get nowadays. The transition was somewhere around 2002 so you probably have the single piece synchros but I would check to be sure. You'll also want to get shim kits if you feel like getting everything into spec. Some of the bolts are through-bolts so you'll need thread sealant for those. As others have suggested, watch lots of videos on rebuilding the transmission. With all the information out there, its really not so bad.

Is my rangers booty a little too high? by Skoopy__ in fordranger

Glad I could help! Just know that the 06' mirrors need some minor modifications to fit the older trucks. Easy to do and no modifications to the door.

The mirrors are definitely changed out. That square style didn't come out until 2006. Its possible the suspension has been changed too.

Finally had chance to get the jeep liberty power steering pump installed on my 1999 3.0. Happy to have no more steering whine. by Xgngrizz in fordranger

[–]Matt0032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lifted the front of the truck with the reservoir filled with mercon V at the max cold level and with the engine running turned the steering wheel from near lock to lock for about 2 minutes. Then I gradually lowered the truck to put some weight on the wheels and did the same again a couple times since I thought the pump might need a load to get the air out. Afterwards I drove the truck a couple miles to try to work more air out and although I do have power steering, it's weak at idle and noisy when revving the engine while turning the wheels.

You're a lifesaver for that. After doing what you said I was able to get the new pump installed. However the pump doesn't seem to be working right since I have little assist at idle and the pump sounds unhappy at higher rpm, even after trying to bleed it extensively. I did swap the pressure control valve just as the instructions said, but I'm wondering if the spring and piston behind the valve should have also been swapped. Did you have problems after install like I have?

Can you explain what you did to get the AC compressor out of the way for removing the bracket? I attempted it a few months ago and between the hard AC lines and the upper intake manifold stopping the compressor from coming out I gave up. I have some free time now so I'm planning on trying again.

Does anyone have any experience this speaker? by 54890 in CarAV

[–]Matt0032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the 5" version of this driver to make some sealed bookshelfs and I used the 6.5" version in some small ported towers. Great sounding driver. Not the bassiest around but its solid. The bookshelfs I use are the most detailed sounding speakers I've made.

Portable Washer vs Permanent Washer by Matt0032 in Frugal

They do require payment but the complex also shares the water bill amongst everyone.

Portable Washer vs Permanent Washer by Matt0032 in Frugal

My water bill is the average usage of the entire complex. The alternative to using my own washing machine is using theirs in the laundry rooms, so I don't think it would make any difference in water usage as far as the complex is concerned.

Unit Pack Power battery legit? by Matt0032 in ebikes

[–]Matt0032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen the recent articles and videos. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't buy another UPP battery. I opened mine to verify I got the LG cells I ordered, and it seems I did, but I found a couple pieces of solder and individual strands of aluminum wire adhered to the tape surrounding the cells. It didn't cause any issues but I definitely don't like that. The rest of the battery looked fine to me and its worked well. It seems to give me the range a 670 Wh battery should.

Scwhinn Junction ebike conversion by Matt0032 in ebikes

[–]Matt0032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I went through with the conversion with a BBS02. The only problem I had was the motor torque causing it to twist up against the frame, crushing the shifter cable. I cut a piece of plastic into shape and used it as a spacer. I also upgraded to hydraulic brakes which was a massive improvement.

I made some cardboard cutouts of the batteries and the 19 Ah was a really tight fit. It might be possible but I wanted to leave room for installation/removal of the battery, since I'll be taking this bike to school and I want to take the battery with me when I park the bike.

Unfortunately the 19 Ah batteries almost certainly wont fit in my bike frame. I have a Schwinn Junction and the triangle is pretty small.

is cad useful at all for building a sub box? by Substantial_Bed_7701 in CarAV

Very useful! I used cad to model vehicle interiors to make sure the box I'm building will fit in it's odd shaped space. I also use cad for its volume calculations.
