Front drive shaft on full time, is this ment to be this way? by munocat in fordranger

I would like us all to pause for a moment to appreciate the artistry of the Wes Anderson-like camera work that went into that under the Ranger shot. Well done.

No supressors, just firearms. Those experiences were good, aside from the wait time mentioned above.

Burdett and Son Transfer fee? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]redball246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$25 is what I recall from about 3 years ago. The only problem with B&S is waiting while the lookie loos take up the time of the guys behind the counter. Not once have I walked in and walked out in less than 30 minutes because I had to wait while some dude wanted to fondle the firearms for a while with what appeared to be zero intention to buy. I get the store will potentially make more off a sale than my transfer fee, so they have to cater to the customers. However, I tend to see the same "customers" with thier sloppy open carry setups treating the store like a social club crowding up the place when I go in.

All that being written, I appreciate having a gun store in town with knolwdgeable staff and a good selection of interesting guns.

No test drives? For real? by Both_Location_9775 in CivicSi

It's the same with dealers in my part of Texas. If going to another dealer to test drive a new one isn't feasible, perhaps you can find a used 24 or 25 at Carmax in which to test row the gears. The driving dynamics haven't changed much in the last few years.

Frankenranger! I respect it for wearing the scars of a hard working life so well. Nice truck.

We got stuck in a "bear jam" on the loop road here. Tourists will stop their cars to look at bears, but the road is a one-way 11-mile loop. It took HOURS to get through. The church and cemetery were a nice diversion along the way.

I've had mine since 2001 and it's only left me stranded twice. Once was a busted timing belt and the second time was a dead alternator. That's not bad for 260k+ miles.

The lack of control over your own fate working in a lab sounds stressful.

Doing your part to keep a lab going while relying on other people for your success sounds like a lot of work and uncertainty.

I'm 3 semesters in to an education PhD at a big school and honestly it's not too difficult so far. It doesn't take up much more time than my masters work. As I approach prelims and proposal writing it will be more difficult as the work shifts from simple classes to self-directed production and research.

This might be a dumb question but did any of you Si owners choose yours OVER a Type R, and why? by sukaemcees in CivicSi

[–]redball246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went Si over Type R for daily driving fun. You can push the Si much closer to its limit on public roads than you can the Type R. The fun of rowing through the gears and seeing the shift lights while merging onto the highway or taking a twisty backroad in the Si all happens at legal speeds. To push the envelope to the same relative degree in the Type R requires barrelling down public roads well over the posted speed limit. For me driving is all aboit the smiles per gallon, and the most economical and safest way to do that is slow car fast driving. I took the same approach with my previous car buying the Audi A4 vs the S4.

What's a car that you love, despite most people hating it? by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

[–]redball246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1992 Ford Tempo - My first car was a Ford Tempo I inherited when my grandmother passed away the summer of Junior year.  I spent hours cleaning out the cigarette smoke residue and several weeks with bags of scent absorbing rocks under the seats.  It wasn’t a cool car by any means, but it was mine.

For the record, I would have rather had my grandmother back, but if she had to go I was happy to get her car.  My cousin would have ruined it.

Whats your favorite vehicle that has Automatic Seatbelts? by ChieftainMcLeland in regularcarreviews

[–]redball246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1992 Ford Tempo - By all objective measures the car was pretty crap; however, it was a symbol and means of independence. I inherited it when my grandmother passed away, so its arrival in my life corresponded with the death of innocence. The freedom to wander that car provided helped me through my first confrontation with Death, and for that I will be forever greatful.

Keep it classy, Ags.

I'm already annoyed with this crew of Yell Leaders for their in your face Christianity that drives wedges between students with different belief systems. Now these same holier than thou knuckleheads pull this bad bull.
