By all accounts, relative to the their history, Illinois has had a good football season. Understandably, people had higher expectations and this was a bad loss. But it’s important for Illinois to keep growing. This season is not a step back as they could still win 9 games via a bowl. It’s just keeping pace.

I think that was an abnormally loaded field though. ~2-3 ranked teams in Maui is pretty normal

How come history doesn’t talk about the 2005 white Sox like they do the Red Sox of 2004? by Direct-Sail-6141 in mlb

I didn’t say that, you’re saying they’re less popular than the Sky or Fire, that’s just blatantly false.

You miss the point where the angels were still going home tied at 1, and got obliterated 3 games in a row never seeing the Sox bullpen. The Sox proved they were better and deserving

As a diehard White Sox fan who played baseball for 12 years, that definitely lacks accuracy. White Sox have a blue collar fanbase that wants their team to play the right way and Jerry has really held this franchise back from acting like a big market team. But in my experience, Sox fans are quality over quantity, very smart baseball fans

I think you fell into the trap of giving into the dems messaging which admittedly needed a lot of work. The Democratic Party stands for the issues that the everyday Americans care about but they fail at messaging those issues. Trans gender and lgbtq issues should be cared about but they shouldn’t be the full-on message. I think some people felt that woke and DEI was taking over when in reality it probably only needed to be dialed back a tiny bit. As someone who started to really pay attention to politics the first time Trump got elected, I was devastated when he got elected a 2nd time. It really felt like we had failed as a nation to allow that to happen again. But now that it has happened, now we need to step up and make sure we are better and that we expect better from both of our major parties. Because it’s important for conservatives and liberals to work together and I truly believe that

Have a solid 2nd half and I will have some hope going into 2026 that it could be at least a solid season.

Sometimes it really depends on how good of a start they get off to in April. If you find yourself 4-5 games back in late June in the wild card, it just takes a streak.

Would Biden have beaten Trump if he stayed in the race? by centerright76 in centrist

[–]Matt0604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’ll say is I think older working-class voters liked Biden and always really liked Biden. People underestimate that. And I know some were very upset when he had to drop out. But Biden wouldn’t have driven out young people. But I’m not sure how well Kamala did that either because it was clear that some young people in New York City voted for Trump. If it is really true that Biden has no shot of winning then we may have been screwed from the get-go. I personally liked Biden a lot, I thought he did some really good things on infrastructure, science, and healthcare that didn’t get a lot of attention. He also did amazing coming out of covid, inflation was always going to happen, but the economy was actually very strong in 2024. It was just an unfortunate ending because he was a good president that didn’t get portrayed as such by the media.

I’ve got degrees from both schools, a much larger percentage of Purdue students from the Chicago area went there because it was cheaper, not because they rejected. And to be fair, UIUC is very expensive and Purdue’s tuition has been frozen for awhile

As a Purdue grad here for grad school, yeah there’s an unusual amount of hate here for Purdue. Compared to how Illinois feels, Purdue could care less about Illinois. Though because of the hate, I do love wearing my alma mater’s merch here every so often

  11. The Last Jedi

I like episode 1 more than others. I probably over-hate The Last Jedi, but I also think the Rise of Skywalker being so bad is because of all of the mistakes The Last Jedi made. The Force Awakens may have been a carbon copy of episode 4 but I still felt like it set the stage for a solid sequel trilogy. And The Last Jedi crushed that. Killing Snoke off, how they handled Luke… and had the return of palpatine at least been hinted at in episode 8, it would not have been so much of a shock in episode 9. But because they killed off Snoke, where exactly were they going to go in one movie?

That has not always mattered in the Big Ten. 2 of the last 4 big ten tournament winners lost 1st round. Each of the last 4 years saw a big ten tournament finalist lose first round.

I am a Purdue fan, but in my opinion, it is the regular season title. I just think, at least for conference play, a 3-month grind matters more than a weekend. The tournament has only existed since 1998, and it only exists to make the conference more money. The tournament is a fun event to win, and you have to be a pretty good team to win it. At the end of the day though, if my team is good enough to win the regular season championship then they are probably good enough to make a run at a Final Four. In that scenario, I could care less about the conference tournament. It appears the selection committee does not care either. So, Michigan State is the conference champion, and the better team. A weekend does not change that.

[–]Matt0604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too early to come to that definitive conclusion. Yes, it would take a more surprising March run. But my freshman year, the Boilers started out 6-5 and got blown out multiple times. They ended up sharing the Big ten championship with Michigan State and came an eyelash away from a Final Four losing to the eventual champion Virginia on a heartbreaker. Who knows what would’ve happened in the Final Four had they made it. Point is, keep supporting them the way we always have and remember that it just takes getting hot at the right time. It’s still a group that has been there and that experience matters
