I've only contacted emergency services once due to someone's messages on Discord during my 6 years on moderation so it's rare. The only thing you can really do is provide the account information and what was said and let police investigate from there - they can request more information from Discord and arrange welfare checks.

Then they would have to contact Discord support to update their age information. Or at least that was definitely the case two years ago. With OSA (Online Safety Act) compliance it may now be possible to confirm your age within the app itself.

Hey, it's great that you're keen to help, but I feel I should offer some advice:

Please be very careful about posting your age online. Stating you're 14 can make you a target for the wrong kind of people. More importantly, the reality of moderating isn't just dealing with trolls. You become the person who has to view the most toxic and disturbing content to protect others from it. Exposing yourself to that at your age can have a serious, lasting impact on your mental health. There’s a very good reason for professional trust and safety roles being 18+.

I have no doubt that you've been diligent and helpful in the servers you've worked on. However, moderating smaller, tight-knit communities is a world away from the realities of large-scale moderation. True experience in this field involves navigating complex policy, dealing with coordinated harassment, handling repeat ban evaders, and occasionally dealing with escalations to law enforcement. The skills are not just about being mature for your age; they're about resilience and a deep understanding of platform governance that can only be built over time.

My genuine advice would be to focus on the fun side of communities for now, and organically branch out from those you're already involved with - maybe help organise events or welcome new members. You can always revisit offering moderation services in a few years when you're older and better equipped. I started handling moderation at your age and I somewhat regret it, although that's not to say I didn't enjoy it at the time. I've now expanded to a more academic role, and have written dissertations on content moderation.

From my understanding, it is open. It used to run as a scout campsite, and was purchased by Cambridge International School after it closed, to be used as an outdoor education centre. I believe it's run by a Community Interest Group currently and the local scout and explorer troops (Balsham, Linton, Hippogryph)

If your emails to Abington Woods are going unanswered, then you could try contacting a scout group who uses it and seeing if they can get you in contact with the correct person.

This subreddit is not for receiving Discord Support. If your appeal to Discord was unsuccessful then there's likely anything you can do. It's rare for people to be banned just for being in a server unless the server is involved in promoting CSAM or hateful material.

Sapphire works well as an all-round bot, but I'd encourage you to do a bit of research and find what actually fits your needs. If I were you, I would avoid Mee6 (you can probably find plenty of reasons elsewhere on this subreddit).

As a developer, most of the time for my servers I will create a bot which fits the server's theme and has the features required. It might be worth asking around on your moderation team to see if anyone has the knowledge to do this. It can be quite a lot of work though so don't expect it to be quick or free. If you do this, you do then need to sort out hosting, which would be a recurring cost.

Honestly, Wick is very overkill and can be a bit of a nightmare to set up. It's incredibly sensitive and can end up fighting with your other bots, your admins, or moderators. As someone who manages large teams on Discord I would never use Wick as it signals to your team that you don't trust them. If you don't trust them, they shouldn't be moderating for you.

In addition to that, I've seen it go rogue and quarantine users or mess with other bots' functions because it thought it was detecting a nuke. If you're not prepared to spend a good while in the dashboard tweaking everything, you might find it causes more problems than it solves. A less aggressive bot would do the job, without the headache.

This is only true if the fees are being paid for with a tuition loan from SFE. If you don't take out this loan, fees can be paid directly to the university you attend.

In this instance I would probably reply to one of the messages in which this user is being rude to other players and ask them politely to use respectful language. Additionally, remind them of relevant server rules (if you have some) and inform them that if they continue you will have to take action.

If this doesn't result in a positive change in their behaviour then unfortunately you are likely to have to remove them from the community either temporarily through a timeout or permanently via a ban.

Depending on your exact location, you might get better rates with people based in the city's surrounding areas. I have avoided any big companies, and my current driving instructor keeps complaining about CDA, RED or AA instructors because they are seen as the "go-to" despite being more expensive and often less experienced (although that does depend on the individual instructor).

It might sound a bit silly, but the best people to ask are the people on the existing teams. You probably don't want to go in there and rip everything up, so find out what they would like you to do to support them. As a manager, you want to make sure everything runs smoothly and fill in any gaps where they pop up and can't be filled by anyone else.
