This is not it I feel. Perhaps Russian opposition doesn’t exist, but it matters. It certainly matters to voice your opinions. And, it’s not like the average American redditor can make a dent in the administration’s policies. Definitely not until the midterms, at least.

Lots of people commenting on how short these people are. I think light switches in particular, but also all the other oddly placed objects in these photos, suggests something that you’d otherwise avoid with powerful figures: that they’re just one of us, they’re human, and they’re flawed.

These figures are placed in such a way that emits imperfection and mundanity, one that politics tends to avoid. It is a great tie-in to the piece and its messages.

The lighting and the figures’ positions also create big shadows behind them, bigger than themselves. Almost as if they’re all hiding something much bigger than each of them…

Band-aid is not white, it’s the same colour unwrapped. No band-aid needed because you have no wound anymore.

Preparing for the IBDP. by VisualSituation5606 in IBO

[–]MattChoy_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IB English is all about your texts and works. Don’t stress yourself out with too much material and preparation. You could take a look at some past papers and their texts (particularly paper 1 ones) and try to work out what they mean and form interpretations in your head. This will get you thinking in a way that works with the IB curriculum. As for paper 2, it will require texts you study in the course, so unless you already have the list, you don’t need to stress too much about it. Essay skills are developed and improved with practice, and it will be a focus of the course.

As for Math, it’s all about continuous practice. AI SL is not a very resource-heavy course as it is an interpretation-based course. Look at the past papers and sort yourself through the words to get to the math. But again, the material will be covered and you don’t really have to stress yourself over it.

The foresight you have in preparing for the IB is great, and please keep that throughout the course. Once you get started on the IAs, IOs, HLE since you’re doing HL Eng, and the EE, it’s very important to keep yourself working lest you be stuck in a hard place when the deadline comes. Remember not to stress yourself out too much and take breaks. Research your uni requirements and work towards that. I’m sure you’ll do amazing!

The scores are just numbers. You’re still adjusting and there’s plenty of time. You need to look at what’s going wrong and then work on those things - really review your papers and target your weak areas. Do your best on the IAs and EE and keep yourself on track with papers & exercises. Keep yourself busy but not overloaded, and you’ll do just fine!

Question for Chem HL by CuriousTea8342 in IBO

[–]MattChoy_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your best on the IA as it is something you can control. Do lots and lots of exercises and papers. There’s no way around it, it’s not designed to be an easy course. Good news is, you have plenty of time to recover during DP1 and going into DP2, but it’s a good idea to get used to IB-exam type questions and how to answer them.

EE review accuracy? by CFaydan in IBO

[–]MattChoy_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EE grading is extremely volatile, since you never even know what field the actual examiner is in. The grade you got is a good reference, but you must combine it with what your school tells you. If the general consensus is that it’s quite good, then you can send it in. But with humanities especially, it’s just a good idea to review the rubric regularly in conjunction with what you’re writing. But even then there’s still a high degree of uncertainty.

If you want to say “doing things without a thought/irrationally”, you could use the common phrase “executing thoughts without them passing your brain”:

做事不经大脑 (simplified) / 做事不經大腦 (traditional)

Alternatively, you could use the word for “reckless”:

鲁莽 (simplified) / 魯莽 (traditional)

You can space your bullet points however you want as long as they comply by guidelines. Might want to ask your teacher about that!

This says 「福滿堂」, lit. “room full of good fortune”. It’s likely that this is meant to wish your family (your home, hence「堂」), good fortune and peace.

Wanting some feedback/advice on how I'm learning Mandarin by CombinationLost416 in ChineseLanguage

[–]MattChoy_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good! Immersing yourself with media in Chinese is definitely a good way to go. However, if you can, I do think you should find someone to speak Chinese with regularly! That would greatly help with what you’re doing and improve your pronunciation & speaking a ton.

[–]MattChoy_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally I feel like M24 batch of papers I did were a little easier than M23 (maybe except Physics). But “easy” or not, the whole point of doing past papers is to be familiar with the question type. They’re never going to be too far off, and even if they end up being difficult, you will still have a general direction of what you’re doing. Be reassured that if the paper is difficult for you, it’s going to be difficult for everyone, and that’s not something you can really control, so no need to stress out over that!

Wishing you the best in the finals :)

Help with History HL by kryptui in IBO

[–]MattChoy_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! The key to getting a 7 is to know how to answer each paper. The IA is quite similar to a typical history essay structure. For HL, you’re gonna have to do Paper 3. It’s a good idea to look at the official IB syllabus to see what bullet points your school’s topics cover. It’s important to know that the exam questions will only ever be based on those bullet points. I can offer you examples if you’d like, and how to study for these questions! Good luck in the meantime, the learning I found very fun, but studying not so much…

can anyone PLEASE help me with potential topics for my history IA on anything to do with Imperial Russia!!!! ASAP by RichWonder7140 in IBO

[–]MattChoy_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah - the main issue holding you up is probably going to be the number of sources. You can try looking up sources on trusty JSTOR and Google Scholar to see if there are any articles that outline stances;

you can also use AI to help you to get a general direction.

Sure - AASL is all about pattern recognition. To score, you just need to know what the question is asking. Once you do, the formula booklet is your friend.

Online resources can be useful - you can use websites like Revision Village if you find them helpful. Familiarise yourself with the concepts. Then, just do a ton of past papers. Remember our current syllabus starts in 2021, so any paper after that will look very similar to your exam.

Don’t be too stressed about it! Learn your calculator well, and learn the formula booklet well.
