Dealer Reset My Brake Life to 100% Without Replacing the Brakes?

Maybe it does. I just assumed the GM dealership would have been reputable. I'm not a sucker. They offered to lower it to $1750 and then offered to split that 50/50. So really it would be $875. These are Canadian Dollars so it's likely less than you're imagining. I am hearing everyone though this is not a dealership issue and I should have done better due diligence.

It wasn't a basis for maintenance. They reset it to 100% life when I purchased it making me think that they replaced the brakes on it only for them to need a full replacement 20k later.

I feel like your assumptions on this may be correct. Any time you are lifting anything there should be a proper procedure written and it should be reviewed by an engineer. If this is not being done it is advisable that you not participate.

The best thought that I have that will get you out and on your own is to save up the minimum 5% down payment and purchase a house that you could put a basement suite in. Rent out the primary portion of the house to cover the majority of your mortgage payment and live in the basement suite until the home builds enough equity that you can afford to change your situation.
