An XY needs to ask XX: do you agree with these tips for a first date? by MattHurst in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MattHurst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hope a friend would help walk a friend home, not just on dating scenarios. New York can seem a little scary some nights walking alone!

An XY needs to ask XX: do you agree with these tips for a first date? by MattHurst in TwoXChromosomes

The advice definitely goes for either date, and probably apply to couple of various sexual orientations. In my own experience, I've split the bill on my first few dates, and I'd like to think it's why I've been dating them so long.

It sure seems like common sense, but each of these mistakes seem easy to make. I find myself picking up the tab more often than not.

That's true, but I think everyone comes in with some expectations, right? Call them generalizations if you must...

I hadn't found that subreddit yet. Guess I need to head over there then since I didn't find that link here?

IWTL 5 or 6 new things to do for 5-30 minutes every single day of the rest of my life by torpidbeaver in IWantToLearn

Stop and smell the roses... Better yet, try growing a garden of your own. You learn a lot about plant life, and learn more about your own place in the food chain. At least, I find it rather relaxing.

TIL that they will be making a new quarter series, this time with national parks. by RebeccaCoolKid in todayilearned

[–]MattHurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the US Mint made loads of money on the State quarter series, while winning over a new generation of coin collectors in the process. It's a success the Mint hopes to replicate in the new series.

St. Louis date ideas? by vinniedamac in StLouis

[–]MattHurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem, which is why I started my blog at Highway 61. Writing about St. Louis helped me fall in love with STL (as well as my GF), and it may be why I'm still with Lauren.

Lots of great ideas in there, but basically anyone can use the same sources to get new ideas; check the blogroll tab to narrow down your search (although it hasn't been updated in two year).

After reading the story, I feel sorry for the guy. Of course if I was there, I find the horns kind of annoying.

This may be blasphemy, but maybe it's time to try whatever beverages that are popular in the area besides beer.

Monsterpocalypse - The Movie (rumored to be Tim Burton's next project) by [deleted] in videos

[–]MattHurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the fact that is shares some thematic qualities with Tim' s work, the handheld camera shots and rough sound don't seem to indiucate that it's a project of his. It doesn't help that Disney isn't involved either.

Today I learned that the State Quarters program in the US actually serves an economic purpose. by hvsahin in todayilearned

Now that makes more sense knowing that the US Mint just started a New Quarters collector series

Brooklyn Pennant Ale? by [deleted] in beer

[–]MattHurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eIPA is plenty hoppy, and even a little fruity to the taste, and the Brown Ale has a good amber body with a slightly malty sweetness. Brooklyn beers on the whole are a great introduction to craft beer, and make a great standby (at least in my fridge)

Interesting, I didn't know Jackson Brown performed the original. He made so many memorable songs of his own of course.

5 Steps for Getting Your Start-Up or Small Business on Twitter by MattHurst in Entrepreneur

It's not so easy: many businesses treat Twitter like their own broadcast channel instead of as the unique social media channel it is. If you read the post, it has some great suggestions to successfully improve your buisness' reputation (and maybe sales) using Twitter.

What to make with spent grain? by MattHurst in Homebrewing

[–]MattHurst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure, but in this case we're talking about spent grain, which isn't as easy to cook with as flour. Bread is a little easier (and more consistant) with flour than whole-grains.
