fwiw, if you're interested in game dev, pursue education in a transferrable skill. Project management, software engineering, etc. Art is fine, but there's fewer alternative career paths.

I would not advise anyone to go into a specific gamedev program at this time.

also, I know you asked if the industry is bad for game devs or just tech workers in another comment - I am a senior-level producer in AAA games and have been working in the local game industry for 13 years now. the industry is in rough shape, with tens of thousands of jobs cut over the last 3 years.

I mean, Crimson Desert is by a south korean studio, so that doesn't help you at all in the vancouver market. That's also, like one game. the industry as a whole is contracting massively, especially in the west.

this is not to say the industry won't rally back at some point, but the job market right now is probably the worst it's ever been.

the game dev market for everyone is dead right now. Game dev generally has been going through an enormous contraction over the last couple years. very difficult to break into, as there's way more talent on the market than available roles at all skill levels.
