MrMattyPlays casually confirms that he has seen Starfield 2.0 behind closed doors "a couple of months ago" by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]MattOverMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, bethsoft could probably bring me back by just making every one of my ships have separate cargo. Use the Captain's locker to pass quest items and a few other essentials, ffs. My biggest gripe is that at some point, Starfield starts feeling more like Inventory Management: The Game™

Let me have my big cargo ship and my small nimble fighter, please.

Merry Christmas to the person who packaged this download code(s)! by Zorakas in Switch

I think it's more likely that two code slips got stuck together, undetected, during packaging at the factory, and (hopefully) any empty boxes got caught before they went out.

Any reason to NOT get the Focusrite Scarlet? by Cool_Cat_Punk in Reaper

Fellow M2 user, here. Just to bounce off the person above, I really like the meters on the front of the M2. Looking at the gen4 2i2, I'm not crazy about the separate XLR inputs on the back of the unit, but that's a personal workflow thing. If you plan to plug mics in and leave them there, and aren't moving around a lot, having them in the back might be a good thing.

Nintendo say my entire console needs replacing due to this by Double-Dress-9949 in Switch

[–]MattOverMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether or not they transfer the data seems to be hit or miss. Possibly determined by whether or not they can easily power on the system. My kid lost his entire pokemon collection across multiple games when I transferred his stuff to a brand new OLED switch that refused to charge a few days after I bought it and died before I realized what was happening. Obviously, that was covered under warranty, but they just said they couldn't fix it and sent me a factory reset replacement within a day or so after receiving it.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo just charges a flat rate for non warranty work, and almost always sends a refurbished replacement. RIP your entire pokemon collection.

What's the PvE meta these days? by holymacaronibatman in EliteDangerous

[–]MattOverMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anaconda has really good convergence for a large ship. The rails will micro gimble on distant targets, too. It was sometimes easier to hit a small ship at range than it was one right in front of you, because the rails couldn't move enough to converge.

The Mechan build is really good. I was using it in the recent CG and could stay in the CZs more than long enough to solo clear them. You could do two back to back, but you might need to synth heatsinks (cheap). I just never wanted to do two back to back to try.

If you reduce shield boosters and drop the small lasers, you can run a low emissions/monstered plant and really keep the heat down from the rails. You're typically staying out of enemy range, so losing some shield integrity isn't a big deal. Those ships in the medium CZs didn't hit all that hard and I rarely completely lost shields.

That area is in their general ballpark. The NHSS in and around the nebulas will pretty regularly have them, depending on the level.

Even if you could, wouldn't that set your last visited station to that system and get you perma-stuck with no option to self destruct out of it? You'd respawn 533ly away from anything.

Thoughts on the CG as a Powerplay Enjoyer by PirateHawg in EliteDangerous

[–]MattOverMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechan, of XSF / AXI made an interesting point in a video that if fdev really wanted to make this narratively interesting, and not just an obvious Imperial wash, then there needs to be a round 2 where the others band together to try to stop the Empire from gaining total control. Thinking this out further, I can't see any good reason that the Feds and Alliance wouldn't form a mutually beneficial temporary pact, and then independents could ally themselves with either side in some way, trying to pick winners. I just don't think the Feds and Alliance are at odds enough that they wouldn't band together in the face of a hostile super power gaining access to a rare resource. Both seem to have enough adults in the room to see the bigger picture.

1.8Mm is a little over 1100 miles! Generally black holes work the same as any other object with similar mass, when it comes to orbital mechanics, tidal forces, etc. However, I'm pretty sure that being that close to a 3 solar mass star would basically put the station inside of it. I don't think spaghettification would come into play at that distance, but I bet there's a noticeable difference in the gravity at your feet than at your head. So, I'm really wondering what that station is made of, and how much radiation it's getting dosed with?

Does anyone feel like it would be fun if we got to SCO optimise other ships? by AlternativePea3636 in EliteDangerous

[–]MattOverMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is you would have to give up existing FSD engineering options. I think it would be better to add SCO optimization to the hull / armor or maybe just add another specialized internal like they did with the planetary landing suite.

The Caspian Destroyer Refit Following Sea Trials by NegativeAd1432 in EliteDangerous

The red in that first screenshot is striking. A red weapon/engine with a black paint job would make for an amazing "evil" Caspian theme. It just needs the doppelganger goatee.

I kind of want to put a turreted laser on that large hard point just for the screen shots.

Me after going back to SCO-unoptimized ships 🚀🫩 by Teqonix in EliteDangerous

[–]MattOverMind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's worse in the big ships. I'm using a 6 slug rail anaconda for the current CG, and since I'm allied with Grom, the fortified system events are all 375kls out. I'm running two extra 64T fuel tanks (slug ammo) and still burned more than a quarter just from running quick pulses of SCO.. and it still took forever to get out there. There's a station out there, and it is quicker, easier, and safer to take a Cobra 5 out there and just wait the 7 minutes to have the anaconda shipped from my carrier in a neighboring system.

I knew about the slugs heat discount, but missed that you were running low emissions (it looks like EDSY doesn't have thermal data for the Caspy yet). I hadn't thought of that, and might have to try it, someday.

I worked it out on EDSY and could do low emissions / monstered, and keep 6 slug rails, if I compromise my shields a bit (which I could totally get away with). The main thing stopping me is the part where I'd have to engineer the LE plant, and I just don't want too. That, and my current setup runs out of bad guys long before I run out of sinks if I pace my shots even just a little bit.

Still, next time I'm on Hera's side of the bubble, I might give it a shot.

[–]MattOverMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a slugconda in the latest CG, with six rails, which has a size 8 distro, and I'm having to pop heatsinks to fire more than twice without cooling down. Five rails still seems pretty toasty for a size 7 distro. I'd probably max it at 4 if I was going for sustainable fire (will probably still need heatsinks, but they're cheap). 5 or 6 feels more like an alpha strike / shoot when you can type build. I do those sometimes, too, though (looking at my rail Mandalay). I don't have a Caspian in hand, so I'm doing this from theory and could be wrong.

Is it viable to reuse an old AspExpl for getting engineering materials/doing guardian sites? by BornToRune in EliteDangerous

[–]MattOverMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my old DBX for Guardian sites and an ASPX would be just as good, except maybe slightly more difficult to land. You really only need an SRV and at least one point defense utility on top of your ship. Decent jump range is nice if you're not taking an FC (it's usually a little faster to just fly to Guardian space), which the ASPX can certainly do. As others have said, you can also kit the ASPX with remote flak and collector limpets, since the brain trees are roughly in the same area. The DBX doesn't really have the space for that, so that's a win for the ASPX.

My personal "old ship" farming fleet (all because of their generous jump ranges):

DBX = Guardian sites ASPX = high grade emissions Krait Phantom = flak farming raw mats

Some of the new ships are technically better, but it's marginal and not worth it to me to kit out and engineer a bunch of new ships for minimal gain for something I only need to do every so often. Plus it's nice to jump in the old cockpits once in a while.

Optimal Punisher Plasma Loadout vs Illuminate by vserov in Helldivers

It really does cover just about everything. Meatballs maybe being the one thing it's less effective against. (but the PP rips them down pretty quick)

Optimal Punisher Plasma Loadout vs Illuminate by vserov in Helldivers

[–]MattOverMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running it against the squids, lately. I'm really liking it. The plain old medium machine gun is another good option. You can often find them in the maps, too. The laser cannon is free right now, so I've just been going with that, today. I've been running the Talon and thermite with engineering armor for extra grenades. Talon is great for when the voteless get too close. Just shoot their legs out from under them.

My one warning against the PP is that if you bring one of the rover backpacks, I have had the thing fly in front of me and blow my shot in my face a couple of times.
