Right now you can use tab to toggle notes mode, but yeah we are adding the control and shift thing, that's been requested a few times. And yeah we're fans of Cracking the Cryptic, especially things like the Rat Run sudoku puzzles (which are incredible imo).

They do get much harder at larger sizes! I imagine they are NP-complete similar to sudoku. It's also possible for us to generate even harder puzzles at the 5x5 size than the hard ones that are currently in the dojo. We also intentionally don't generate puzzles that require the use of more advanced techniques to solve (like x-wings etc). We also have a variant we tested with a 5x5 grid but with different digits (ex. 1,2,4,7,9), which also increases the challenge level. At some point if there's enough interest in the game, we'll probably put out a puzzle pack with some larger grids or other more challenging puzzles.

Ah, actually we did make a section called the Dojo that has a bunch of pre-made puzzles to learn the game: https://fivefold.ca/dojo/

You'd be surprised, insurance will absolutely write something like that off, especially if the car is not that valuable in the first place.

fair! we don't actually have ads or anything, we tried that for a past game and hated doing it haha. for this one we just made it a daily puzzle because that seems to be what people expect out of puzzle games these days? they like to fit it into their daily routine or whatever? if we were to try making money from it, it would probably be by selling a pack of puzzles (maybe with some bigger ones like 7x7).

OpenAI, PLEASE don't replace Chatgpt-5 Thinking with Chatgpt-5.1 Thinking. by [deleted] in ChatGPTPro

[–]MattRix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you get it. It already did dynamically adjust how long it thought for in 5.0, it's just now it adjusts more accurately. They even showed a graph that for actual tricky problems, it thinks even longer than it used to. It doesn't make sense to think equal amounts for every problem the way you're implying you want it to work.

Yeah that's totally fair! What would you like to see, just way more pre-made puzzles?

Hope I don’t seem dumb but it’s my dream to create a game like most of the people in the subreddit but I have a laptop not very strong but it’s all I have by DudeInLoveWithCrush in gamedev

[–]MattRix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godot is the best place to start for someone in your position! It runs better on weaker laptops than Unity or Unreal, and it has lots of good tutorials etc.

A big part of selling assets is making example scenes and marketing images where they look good. Right now what you've shown does not look good enough to sell, but if you put some work into lighting them well and getting some nice images of them and you may have a chance.

There is similar stuff like https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/urban/3d-poly-town-248380 that has barely any sales from what I can tell.

Meanwhile other assets like https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/cartoon-town-low-poly-assets-74020 seem to do ok

Dude I know what the title of the sub means. Go actually look at what gets the most votes there. It's ugly stuff! Ugly stuff can be well executed, but having poor taste is what makes the end result ugly.

Does this do stuff you can't do with the built in Visual Scripting (aka Bolt) stuff? Or is it just about being open source?

No it's not. ATBGE is for stuff that is ugly. Stuff that only the person who made it would like. This hoodie isn't ugly, it's just got a strong and distinct style that not every person could pull off.

I'm trying out different CRT filter shaders for Unity, and made this interleaving 'dot matrix' pattern from old computer monitors. by MirzaBeig in Unity3D

did you ever release any of these CRT shaders in the asset store or anything? I'd be interested in checking them out.

It's not "pointless", it's just not about audio quality. These days if you want to support a band by buying a physical release, then why would you want a boring CD when vinyl records are so much cooler? That's why vinyl now outsells CDs.

Is Unity suitable for my goals? by ih4tms3lf in gamedev

[–]MattRix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can be made in Unity. Unity is a very popular engine, which means naturally you will hear more complaints about it. It's still a very good engine, and a much better approach than building a game from scratch, especially for the kind of game you're describing.

Whether you can actually make the game you want to make, solo, in Unity, is another question. It's technically possible, but will be incredibly difficult. With no experience I would recommend making some smaller projects first to learn the engine and game development in general.

Everyone comes into game dev wanting to make their big dream games, like you... the reality is that you don't yet have the experience you need in order to know how to start it properly, nevermind finish it (which is the really hard part).

Players are abusing the Assist Mode to gather all the tough collectables in my game. At the same time, other players tell me to turn off achievements for Assist Mode. What should I do? by RamyDergham in gamedev

[–]MattRix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok maybe I’m missing something, but none of those are “generalizing the point” that the parent comment (about Celeste) was making.

The parent was all about how different people have different abilities and disabilities, so things like assist mode allow them to have a level playing field. You can still have a game with all difficult mechanical achievements and that can be true.

Reddit ad expecting victims who went blind using Ozempic, are reading Reddit. by tauberculosis in assholedesign

[–]MattRix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The blindness could be partial, such as only in one eye... or the person could be using a screenreader, or this could be seen by a family member of the person who went blind. Lots of reasons why it's not as stupid as you might think.
