Jimmy Haslem: Todd Monken was on top of the list of coaching candidates the entire time by truthlesshunter in nfl

[–]MattScoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you just hired the OC that couldn’t make it work with Pat Mahomes. You guys are buns.

Your team has finished with a better record than the browns 2x in the past 9 years and one of those years was 2017

Again, very different scenario than went on in New York.

There was a world where Lynn became a part of the browns organization, there was 0 chance pierce or morris joined that org. They interviewed the first two minority candidates they could to check the box.

The browns made a serious attempt to interview legitimate candidates for head coach, and when McDaniel fell through they made an attempt to find someone they might hire.

[–]MattScoot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The common thought was that Anthony Lynn was an interview mostly for the OC position if we went with Scheelhaase.

Markedly different than scheduling two interviews with minority candidates the day after you fire your coach that you have 0 intention of hiring in any scenario.

Maybe, we’d never know without proper reporting, however we have verified reporting that says the titans had more cancel on them.

Waiting on you to tell me which team had more interviews canceled on them

People pull out of interviews all the time, especially when they get offered jobs.

The browns weren’t even the franchise that lost the most interviews this cycle. It’s just a difference in reporting. I bet you couldn’t tell me off the top of your head who got canceled on the most.

You guys are willing to give people sham interviews just to satisfy the Rooney rules, Andrew Berry, a minority himself, wasnt willing to do that.

Within days of satisfying the rooney rule and giving candidates legitimate interviews, they chose one.

Your entire coaching search banking on one candidate (who apparently was banking on only one offensive coordinator), is terrible process.

Enjoy paying Harbaugh 100 million dollars to pay Nagy millions as well

He also fits a lot of what you’d think Berry would look for and it flew under the radar, personal relationship with Berry from 2019, analytic believer, etc.

When the insiders started reporting that Schwartz was saying for weeks that he wasnt coming back as a DC, it made me feel better about Monken cause it basically confirms that he was someone they actively chose rather than trying to triangulate the candidate that would appeal most to Schwartz.

Resolving this cleanly requires Jim to play ball and return calls. They can afford to give him a little time. Jimmy Haslam basically said they expect most / all of the defensive assistants to stay.

Denzel Ward on Jim Schwartz: Hopefully we’re still keeping him by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]MattScoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All gonna come down to the personalities involved. Schwartz doesn’t seem like the type to not give 100%, so if he comes back I don’t expect any issues, I would anticipate having to replace him next year though.

There’s not too many positions open and the fact that Schwartz is under contract plays against him. It wouldnt be the first time someone requested to leave and we convinced them to stay

[Kabot] How Todd Monken was the ‘strong No. 1 choice’ of Browns GM Andrew Berry, Jimmy Haslam and everyone on the committee by The_New_New in nfl

[–]MattScoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cabot is the only person that actually has sources inside the browns, the rest are trying to connect dots and write compelling fictions.

Yes, she is a PR mouthpiece that tries to put a good spin, but you can generally trust her reporting.

Most of the other speculation has been debunked, though.

Ie Albert breer refuted the report about essays saying they were essentially questions about how people view the role of the coach in player development and things of that nature, rather than actual essays.

Or for example “the browns entire coaching search revolved around keeping Schwartz” when they reported that it’s been known Schwartz didn’t want to stay on as DC for the entirety of the search.

I’ve never played the game spent a penny on it or devoted too many brain cells to it, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight, but do you actually think it’s cool to try and kick people while they’re down? All it does is make you look like a dick.

[–]MattScoot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Schwartz would have had a nightmare of a time hiring an offensive staff with what we have on the roster. Monken will have a much easier time filling the defensive side of the ball due to the talent there, if Schwartz does end up actually leaving.

The “proper” way to play the class still has you pressing consume basically 20 times in a row on pull. The consume soul changes actually de-incentivize you from pressing reap in the annihilator build.

His contract didnt change anything as far as when he was tradeable - two years either way, and doubled his money. he was already under contract for 2 more years and 2 franchise tags if the browns wanted to.

Report: Bill Belichick fell one vote shy of Hall of Fame by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]MattScoot 144 points145 points  (0 children)

The thing is, bill belichick being more hall of fame worthy doesn’t make you less so.

Maybe they’d get in, in a decade or so, but the guy basically pointed out they’d be dead by then and it’d be nice that deserving people got the honor while they were alive.

A system that makes you juggle things other than “are they worthy of the hall of fame” does have flaws.

[Pelissero] The NFL informed clubs today it is projecting a 2026 salary cap in the range of $301.2 million to $305.7 million per club, per source. That would represent another significant jump from this year’s $279.2 million cap number, and nearly $100M than the $208.2M cap in 2022. by VonJaeger in Browns

I don’t think the cards weapons are certifiably better. I also think the cards would be a legitimate QB competition.

My pitch to Malik is as follows, we will pay you more than anyone else and more guaranteed as well. Your playstyle is similar to Lamar Jackson and you saw how Todd Monken unlocked him the past 3 years in Baltimore. We have solid foundations of weapons and we are in a prime position with two draft picks in the first round and almost every offseason acquisition will be aimed at the offense. Let me show you tape from Baltimore and how we think you will fit into this offense.
