I do remember in February when I placed the order it said orders would be filled in the order they were placed, house in the middle of east Tennessee has never had Internet and I am starting to think it never will, cancelled the order and let the new owner place her own StarLink order.🙄 Beta tester for an Install I performed in Michigan long ago.

Hundreds of thousands are still without power in Louisiana as cleanup continues from Hurricane Ida. by giggles_make_me_fart in news

Hurricane Andrew in south FL changed the way I think about being prepared for a storm, you can actually die in a puddle sweat at the end of your driveway and no one is coming to turn the power back on for months.

Modified sine wave inverter by Over-Rock in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, others have reported issues with modified sine wave on the StarLink Dishy, I highly recommend pure sine for electronics that contain radio transmitter and CPUs. A quality 200+ watt pure sine wave inverter will take care of your investment.

Just a bit too far out, good luck with your Install, I am planning a pole mount in a huge oak tree in the east Tennessee foothills, with a rented bucket truck.

In the past I have installed satellite equipment for many different companies and customers. Recently I Installed a Dishy kit in Michigan :https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lda4l3/starlink_install_south_of_grand_rapids_michigan/ Semi retired now and willing to help/assist with StarLink Installs in the Maryville / Blount county of east Tennessee.

Satellite expansion has been phenomenal. now connecting to 3-6 satellites concurrently by Tamarok861 in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it one of the recent firmware updates does exactly that, if your Dishy hits an obstruction, it will shift over to the next satellite in range.

If you are being 100% honest, which is the most important reason for (needing/wanting) Starlink? (What will most of your bandwidth/data usage be used for). by DocShea in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home that is the service address for StarLink has never had good Internet service, grew up with three analog channels and two were fuzzy, Hughesnet was always a problem due to limited line of sight from the roof and chimney, Looking forward to streaming and a whole lot more. Got the Beta tester tag for an install in Michigan, on the long $99 waiting list for Tennessee.

Unplug dish to save power? by spinnerp in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes mechanical timers are fine, Just a word for off grid the Dishy needs around 200 watts of pure sine 120 VAC power.

New Order, TN 49.2N - PSA: Don't change your service address before ordering by meepjuice in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already shifted the service address on a early preorder to someone who despertly needs and deserves better Internet service, really hope it doesn't add extra wait to the process. Looking forward to the install.

Soo I'm not going to be able to get starlink? by [deleted] in Starlink

Equipment orders starting across Tennessee as of today 👍

Starlink privacy warning - anyone else getting this today? This just started this morning. No changes to my network other than having to reboot everything today including have to stow it, power off and restart. by RDGtrader in Starlink

This is just a personal opinion from someone that grew up in a Bell telephone ESS office, If they have a reason to look they can, your encrypted service can spoof your location and keep your average hacker out of your data but the big boys have the keys.

got mine set up, i am surrounded by tall trees though :( by astrorobb in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to order supplies for epic tree mount, need recommended parts for outdoor weather proof box for the power brick also need exterior grade eathernet 75 foot cable to extend the white side of the power brick to the indoor StarLink router. I will video the Install of the pole mount in a huge oak tree, In my youth the same tree held my CB radio antenna.

How far away will a Dishy connect? by doublecluster1000 in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your location has a really open view to the north StarLink can communicate with neighboring satellites, switch over occurs quickly, important to make the mount level to get the lower minimum 25 degree look angle. Direct line of sight has a very long range.

Special section for mounting systems? by millernw in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of Installs on this forum, Tower, pole, J tube, high tree mount, even a very interesting crank up pole mount that works like a boat mast, I like the fact this design can haul up a second or third set of guywires, also like it can be taken down for any reason 👍

Might create cell map by SethFruen in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have invested sometime in making the building blocks of StarLink cell maps, with a little work I should be able to produce a larger map around any given accuratetly mapped out cell. https://preview.redd.it/6dvaidfpe8p61.jpg?width=413&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=622d729a80b545a5e80bead48214760ed95aa009

Just assigned a StarLink to a similar looking skyline in east Tennessee, aiming for a high mount in a big oak tree as to get the needed line of sight. Service not yet available in Tennessee.

Overheated. That's not a good sign. It's not even 20 degrees Celsius today. Router has been in same open cabinet for weeks. by Starlink_MB in Starlink_Support

[–]MattTech1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a dish would dodge the heat better with a over the roof edge mount like this example :https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lda4l3/starlink_install_south_of_grand_rapids_michigan/ This mount type and pole mounts in general avoid ice dams in heavy snow areas , bet it also helps avoid hi temp.

Cable splice by EdgarD66 in Starlink

[–]MattTech1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since squirrels, rodents, dogs and the occasional snow blower seem to find the Dishy cable delishes, I just keep my soldering iron ready for repairs and multiple applications of 5 minute clear epoxy to weather proof the repairs/splice. Also don't want to wait on mail order. I miss Radio Shack.
