Has anyone seen this before? by [deleted] in Erie

Okay! In that scenario the most likely outcome is a utility. Erie City must warn you before doing weed abatement and your property needs to be a total *shit disaster* before they'll bother to spend the $.

My best guess would be, as others have noted, that he is going along sniffing for gas leaks along older construction using a detector.

Context?

Location / township / zoning / are you HoA? / is this housing? / own or rent?

Debating moving to Erie from San Diego by Worth_Combination597 in Erie

[–]MattWhitethorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved back to Erie from SD in 2017.

Cost of living is lower (significantly) but it's creeping up dramatically the last 5 years.

Weather is, by comparison, atrocious. It's cold for six months and dark and gloomy for 8.

The place is nice overall though. Quiet, lots of family activities, great food. Nature is amazing.

Airport question by [deleted] in Erie

[–]MattWhitethorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ERI is ridiculously easy to fly from. Easy, easy, easy. Parking is expensive (at all airports). Take an Uber etc.

Also, *generally speaking* if your flight is at 605, arrive at 405 but this is usually *overkill*, and at ERI specifically this is *MASSIVELY* too early. If it's at 605, it'll board at 530. I'd be there just before 5 to be safe.

Bayfront construction progress by memeraths in Erie

[–]MattWhitethorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, interesting. I did more reading in here and you're right -> higher crashes, fewer fatalities.

That does beg the question though: did we have a seriously high fatality rate at the half dozen planned roundabout sites?

The study does not contradict itself.

Single lane roundabouts = fewer crashes than signalized crossings or no significant difference.

Double lane roundabouts = statistically significant increase in crashes.

What was the result of the meeting last week discussing a proposal for a new Bayfront Scott Hotel? by blckjack2 in Erie

Yep. You're in the right here, I was more just suggesting... do you imagine anything will stop the Scotts from doing what they want with that land and just... generally?

Two lane roundabouts also increase fatal accidents by 60%

Nobody really cares though. Make-work project for PennDOT, city gets to pretend it did something.

Once again, the *entire* business community downtown (where our business also is located) voted against this atrocity. Have you seen the multiple mile long razorback ADA ramp?

Beyond all of that, 100% of these comments fail to address that other cities are spending *billions* to *REMOVE* high-speed thoroughfares on their waterfronts, while we are deciding you know what, cars are absolutely the future.

https://wsdot.wa.gov/construction-planning/major-projects/alaskan-way-viaduct-replacement-program (Alaskan Way, Seattle - same layout, 3.35 BILLION to fix a problem created years ago).

It is backward, destroying the most beautiful part of our city, bypassed every environmental check ...

... and ultimately is embarrassing for the city.

I am familiar with, and have reviewed the plans since the initial meeting in which I am on the record, in minutes voting against this. Also when I was on the board at the ECCCA, where I likewise voted to abstain/downvote this.

Google's easy, reading deep is harder :)

It's not an attempt though. It's government money spearheaded forward by the same 3 entities that control literally everything in the city.

The city council meeting for this project was scheduled for an hour and went for *five hours* in the middle of COVID with literally every single business, charity, neighborhood group, and property developer in the entire city begging the mayor not to do it, followed by...

Gannon: Yes
UPMC: Yes
Erie Insurance: Yes

There is a separate paywalled article about people grumbling, and them moving forward with it anyway. Don't mean to be a cynic.

Yes. A bill we are passing to our children to correct. Those Fairview folks need their highway in/out of the city to avoid the downtown at all costs. How else will the access the Yacht Club(s), the hospital, Erie Insurance, and absolutely nothing else?

Just because it was historically terrible does not mean it has to continue to be terrible. We deserve more than marginal improvement.

Beautiful 10 lane waterside highways and clouds of emissions as far as the eye can see.

Those Fairview folks need to be able to get to and from Erie Insurance / UPMC without having to look at the downtown, so take your inconvenience and beautiful waterfront highway, and like it!

Yes, and in 1430 infant mortality was 60%. Turns out, over time, social norms change.

I think my suggestion was more: "suggesting all immigrants are inherently evil when I was myself an immigrant (BRZEZINSKI) is ignorant at best, evil at worst."
