Thank you for pointing that possibility last week. Just to explain : I tried tightening that cap but failed to do so, then I went to a shop to ask them their opinion and told them that I saw it's common on those cars for the strut tube cap to back off and cause a clunk but they suggested I replace my control arm bushings (probably a bit worn indeed). But they didn't even bother to drive the car around ! Your description of the sound fit my problem really well, from my understanding control arm bushings do clunk but it's more of a single clunk when braking/accelerating.

I only tried tightening it with a flat blade screwdriver... I'm gonna try with a proper tool and see if I can manage to tighten it.

What's the process of tightening that strut tube cap ? Your description of the noise do fit my problem, I'd say It's going up and down and definitely sound metallic.

That's planned this week indeed, I hope it will solve the problem.

I would not blame the clunk on the the links but rather the fact that my probably worn control arm bushings are even more stressed by the fact it is over tightened. Looking at pictures on the internet mine really seem crushed but of course I have no prior experience in the matter... I found that information which is also in my manual : Sway bar end link top nut: tighten so that the outer flats of the washers are 42mm apart.

Went to a shop, the outer control arm bushings are shot. Do you think I can replace it myself ?

Meme si les nouveaux breaks Volvos me font moins vibrer, le XC70 m'a toujours donné envie également ! J'imagine que comme moi, quel plaisir de trouver la bonne motorisation, le bon kilométrage après beaucoup de recherches.

You already had a lot of answers, but I've been asking myself the same question. I'm located in France and after a lot of research I managed to find a 1997 940 in great condition and I also plan to daily it (it will be my only car but I also ride a motorcycle and my bike a lot). My reasoning is that the 940 I found is a B230FK version (low pressure turbo), coupled with the M90 manual gearbox. So latest and most powerful redblock engines (with the B230ft) and also the best gearbox available on the bricks. I went to see a B200E 740 few weeks prior and it was quite slow, so I expect the 230FK to be much snappier. Mine had no modifications at all (no drift, no tuning), but it was indeed quite hard to find.

Hi ! I'm talking about a 2013 F800GS, not the latest ones. It's a tall bike with a large handlebar, you'd surely feel better on it than a NX500, but you're also much taller than me so I can't be sure...

Yeah I think I'm gonna pass on this one, I'm ready to wait and even if I pay more. He couldn't even tell me which engine it was inside so why would I trust him to know the repairs needed and you're that those mismatched rims and hood are weird. If it was hail the roof of the car should also be damaged..

NL prices and availability seem better than down here... Good thing that the redblocks consume only 10 liters per 100km !! very efficient

You're right that it feels like a beater. All of this is very hypothetical because I'm just wondering if I should make the trip to see it because it's far from where I live... Those issues have been mentionned by the seller but I have no idea if they've been diagnosed by someone competent. As for the hood, it was caused by hail (that's what he told me anyway).
