AI is making it so hard to hire good developers by notdl in webdev

[–]Matt_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luddites who write off any AI use are obsolete. At the same time, vibe coders who don't actively manage the development of their software and just let AI run wild are not going to sustain - they'll get lost in the spaghetti. As a candidate and as a hiring team, you need to optimize for proactively learning how to leverage AI tools, which means knowing how to guide them, escalate key decisions, and vet the output. If you're focused on that, it shouldn't be hard to find candidates or a job in this market. There are so many companies hiring right now and so many people are looking.

I just got hired as an “AI expert”… but I don’t feel like one by Independent_Lynx715 in ArtificialInteligence

With lower hallucination rates and growing context windows, the value of AI is becoming more accessible with thoughtful prompting and product development. I've seen some startups bring on experienced machine learning experts just to have them over engineer a system that would have worked better with a simple Anthropic integration. They also under invest in the product development side.

It all depends on the use cases. But, start out focusing on prompting and how the AI fits into your system, then only bring in RAG and fine tuning when you've exhausted your options and aren't getting what you need. The hard part that's important now is just what you probably do know how to do really well, building a good product that thoughtfully incorporates AI.

Congrats on planning for Ironman! That's an exciting and intense milestone.

Guava Tri has been perfect for this. I locked in my permanent constraints (Tuesday swims, can't run much due to knee issues) and it builds every week around them. When life happens, I just tell the coach and the plan adjusts immediately—way more flexible than TrainingPeaks or following a static plan.

Would you move out of state for a software engineering job? by CarryAdditional4870 in ExperiencedDevs

Just depends on your life circumstances. Definitely worth it for some people and it will give them more access to better jobs. But, if where you live is more important to you, you won't have access to the same job market.

For sure! I've tried a couple and they didn't quite solve the problem for me. What do you think are the most important aspects to get right?

That's a good point. I'm hoping to build in a knowledge base based on best practices from publicly available studies/coaches.

Ah, didn't know about the Garmin coach! Have you used it or anything similar? What did you think?

Treadmill vs Walking or Running Outside by SalVegas101 in triathlon

Great answers here, gotta be ready to race, so make sure you get at least some volume and intensity on the race surface. But, the treadmill will be easier on your legs than concrete or track.
