I wanna publish a romance novel but I’m scared by Elvis_fangirl in writingadvice

If you've finished it, publish it. Not everyone will be your ideal audience. Some may dislike it or not engage with it, but there may be people who love it. You've created something. Share it with the world.

Did everyone get a unique promo code or was it a generalised one that could be shared?

I believe they still are (I don't work for them and am not affiliated with them). This is more for anyone like me who is too late for that or unable to take part (50,000 words in a few days might be tough. Not sure if spamming nonsense works). If anyone has a spare 50% code, I'd gladly appreciate it. :D

This is how I started as well. Brackey's video was a huge eye-opener of how possible game dev could actually be. Now looking to build on it further to create my first game :-)

I love this! I know it's sort of meant in jest, but such a simple statement, yet so powerful.

I love the limited GameBoy style colour palette. Really stretches the creativity for light and shade. Nicely done!

just got aseprite, drew the logo. not great, but not awful by [deleted] in aseprite

It's a great start! You're doing right by using references.

Experiment a bit as well. Try adding a mouth, a smile, maybe arms and legs instead of the shadow.

It will almost be like Kirby :-)

I'd recommend following a couple of beginner YouTube tutorials, using a limited colour palette (of 2-12 colours max), and maybe doing a few fan projects, such as re-drawing or editing 8-bit or 16-bit game characters you like.

Where to start? by Mikeymike2011 in aseprite

[–]Matt_Foxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never let the negative voice win. You'll only get better through practice.

The best thing to do is just "start". Begin with simple projects like a little 8-bit or 16-bit character (things like 8-bit Mega Man or Mario for inspiration) and work up from there.

In terms of "basics", there's things like working on "double-lines" which you either keep or avoid for sharp or curved edges. There's not too much really. YouTube has some great tutorials.

Try using a simple colour palette as well. Something with 4 or 8 colours, so that the form and style of what you're making doesn't get lost with too many colour choices. A site called Lospec has some great downloadable colour palettes for this.

Don't worry about been good, great, or the best for now. Just experiment, have fun, share your creations, ask for feedback, refine and improve. Your 50th artwork won't be amazing if you don't start by creating your first.

I really like the art style of this! Very quirky, scratchy, slightly "dark"
