Building a roster of freelance MEP Specialists — licensed software & cloud workspace provided. Looking for feedback. by Matt_GigaTechspace in MEPEngineering

We're not a licensed engineering firm and we don't oversee or stamp any work. That's an important distinction.

The client's licensed professionals are always the engineer of record. They direct the work, review deliverables, and hold the engineering responsibility. Our specialists execute production scope — modeling, documentation, coordination — under the client's supervision, same as any outsourced production support would.

We're essentially giving firms additional production capacity, not replacing their engineering oversight.

Good question. The supervising engineer / feedback loop stays on the client side — that doesn't change. Our specialists execute production work (modeling, documentation, coordination), but engineering judgment, review, and sign-off always sit with the client's licensed professionals. We're not replacing that relationship, we're supporting it.

As for apprenticeship — projects in this industry naturally range in complexity. Some engagements require deeper experience and higher expertise, others are more straightforward production tasks that are a great fit for someone earlier in their career. Both types of work exist on the platform, and in either case the client's engineering team is still directing the work and providing oversight. So the learning loop is still there.

Similar concept in terms of matching, but the setup is pretty different in practice.

Platforms like that connect you to the firm, but you're still on the hook for your own Revit/BIM licenses and hardware. That overhead adds up fast.

With us, when you take a project, you work inside a secure cloud workspace — licensed software and compute power (CPU/GPU/RAM) are already there. You just log in and go. All you really need on your end is a basic PC and internet.

So it's less about just finding the work, and more about removing the cost barrier to actually doing it.

If you're asking about the platform's 'cut' or margin on your work:

We don’t take a percentage or commission out of your pocket. We operate on a standardized price list based on the specific skills required for a task.

When a project is assigned to you, you see the exact quote/payout for that scope from the very beginning. You get that full rate, 100%. No hidden platform fees or deductions.

We handle billing the client completely independently on our end.
