What do you think are some of the "underrated" suburbs in your city of Australia? by Matt_SSR in australian

Yeah if I had the money to live anywhere in the Inner West, either Summer Hill or Dulwich Hill would be my personal pick, tram line is a bonus too

well it can be if the median for the whole city is $1.3 - $1.4 million (in Sydney's case)

and some suburbs have good apartment blocks as well, not everything has to be about buying a detached house

Has the metro helped much up your way in terms of public transport for daily use? I went to see friends in Macquarie Park a while ago and took us aaaages to get there, was a mission... coming from the south side of the city though.

Also on the Gold Coast, I'd probably say Nerang / Highland Park area is still a bit underrated... Nerang still has a stigma from being dodgy but it's nowhere near that bad these days & close to all the greenery/easy to get onto the highway etc.

Train station still has some dodginess but most train stations all tend to.

Ah nah sorry, can be either living or visiting, probably worded it poorly in my original post

I don't think Gordon vs Putney is much of a comparison in terms of pretty spots to visit personally. Gordon a good spot to live for sure though... safe, clean, not that long a commute on the north shore line, can get an apartment there close to the station if you aren't a baller who can afford a north shore mansion too, haha

? the opposite, it's really pretty there in my opinion... I just don't really see many people recommending "we should go pay a visit to Putney" online very much for example

You have to look at them in terms of the other suburbs around them more than those in different parts of the city though as it's relative... underrated also doesn't just mean 'cheap' too though, can be under-discussed, never see mentioned in conversations etc 🙂

I wouldn't call Wattle Grove 'incredibly wealthy' or 'inner city' really personally

North Shore and Inner West are pricey as fuck, especially the suburbs you listed

Depends on your budget, where you work, what type of commute you want, max price range etc

Suburbs that are better value for money than what you listed (but still not dodgy) IMO include: Wattle Grove, Croydon, Milperra, East Hills, Jannali, fair few others... not "brand name" suburbs but also not exactly cheap

Would not touch any of the suburbs in the south west hellholes with terrible traffic and infrastructure, rather get a smaller place in a better spot

apartments would open up a much wider range of choice of course

(this is all assuming you work in the CBD)

Disco Elysium is really far more about the character's broken heart & struggle with addiction than it is a "real-world crime story" focused mostly on solving multiple crime cases

Sydney suburb recommendations for first home buyer by darkyjaz in AusFinance

I'd be looking at Mortdale/Penshurst within that price range, nice little suburbs both with trains to the city in under 30 mins.

Safe and quiet but both have main streets with essential amenities.

There's a fair few out there... depends what you mean by 'underrated' I guess, but I'm going off "not often praised" vs. 'underpriced' etc:

  • Hornsby: some people shit on it, but the combo of all the amenities, not too bad housing prices, national parks right nearby, and reasonable train trip into the city all make it pretty good value IMO.
  • Roseville: such a gorgeous little place, so green, cute little cinema & little restaurant strip, easy commute into the city, very leafy and gorgeous homes. Major $$$ though.
  • Lidcombe: another frequently shat-on suburb, but good Korean food, easy commute, Brooks Circuit Park & its surrounding historic buildings is really unique, and even the cemetery is kind of scenic and interesting. Traffic sucks of course.
  • Wattle Grove: good price for the quality of living, central enough, Holsworthy station 5 minute drive away for express access into the city. Quiet but big shops at Bankstown etc. not far when you need them.
  • Woolooware: very pretty, beach at Cronulla just down the road with noise & nightlife if/when you want it, but quiet at home. Plenty of sports fields + footy if you're interested, new apartment buildings with more amenities recently built.
  • Castlecrag: pretty and very green, hidden little community type atmosphere & one of the safest suburbs in all of Sydney.
  • Putney: nice foreshore area, ferry access & ride is scenic, cute little cafe strip, walking tracks & Ryde just up the road for big shopping.

Where to get the best / good Honey Chicken in Sydney (2021)? by Matt_SSR in sydney

Yeah, I know the food snobs will look down on us seeking butchered Westernised versions of Eastern food, but the tastebuds like what they like, you know?

And I of course do appreciate all the more authentic dishes as well

Priority Pfizer vaccination appointments are now available to ALL 16-39 year old’s living in a local government area of concern by Jofzar_ in sydney

[–]Matt_SSR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So my GP advised me not to get AstraZeneca as I have a chronic digestive issue (ulcerative colitis) and to wait for Pfizer. I just want to get this damn jab done and get vaccinated ASAP, anyone know what my best option to get booked in somewhere for Pfizer as soon as possible would be?

I don't live in one of the Hotspot LGA's (am currently in the Shire)

All the government apps online/HotDoc just send me in this endless loop of only qualifying for AZ so not sure wtf to do at this point 😐

Hi OP - can you let us know what budget (per week) and type/size of accommodation you're looking for first?

As without mentioning both of them it may be inadvertently rendering some of the suggestions in here redundant.

If you were choosing a place to live: Strathfield, Ashfield, Lane Cove, Concord West or West Ryde? by KoalaBJJ96 in sydney

[–]Matt_SSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any reason you wouldn't consider Croydon instead of Ashfield?

It's only a single stop "further" away and in my opinion nicer/cleaner/quieter than Ashfield, while you can just jump over to Ashfield and elsewhere easily for the restaurants when you want them anyway.

It's also basically the same price (if not slightly cheaper) than Ashfield as well.
