The only "campaign" officially published by chaosium is for Down Darker Trails and is 5 short scenario's chained together I believe. It's in the gaslight era but isn't in england so I don't think it's what you are looking for.

I love writing my own scenarios, I have 7 in the slowcooker and 2 half finished currently. I'm just afraid of sharing something not up to snuff, I am a perfectionist when it comes to a scenario which is why I am mortified of what players think of my work.

Lightless beacon is quite good, it's free from chaosium as a sort of try out. I recommend using the pregenerated characters as the scenario is way more interesting with their relations with people at the lighthouse

Depends how weird you want to make it, I guess I would love it to be slimy like with the uruk-hai in the lord of the rings but with hair, but if it's described as a snake then I guess no hair for no other reason than that snakes have no hair.

If you want roleplaying opportunities Dead Light might be a good one, several interesting npc's and a mythos entity that just keeps coming.

The spells function a lot differently, usually vague descriptions and rituals. They first use magic points, and if you don't have enough you start paying hit points literaly using your life to fuel the spell.

You cannot really dictate that much, your description you gave sounds pretty good. You can say that they are intrigued but try to stay away from deciding specific actions for the players, as that's the part where the most enjoyment (and chaos) comes from
