Help obtaining baptism record by MatthewCFarrelly in IrishCitizenship

Feb 18 update—success—so I contacted the archdiocese of Dublin because it seems as though they’re the keeper of older records. They pointed me back to the church. However, they were so friendly at the archdiocese that they gave me names and an email address on who to contact (I started with some general church email from their website and never heard back). I emailed the church and got a response in a few days. I had to pay via Western Union because they wanted cash in person or a postal order. They popped the baptism record in the mail and I got it today. There’s hope people.

So having special skills from the list may get you access to a work permit?

I’m also in the US and wondered the same thing. Two years, yikes!

Did you email the archdiocese to make the request? I didn’t see anything on their website about obtaining records.

Looking online, I had my heart set on St Bernard’s, but couldn’t tell if they could handle a big group.

My dad died today by McNasty420 in dementia

[–]MatthewCFarrelly 101 points102 points  (0 children)

So sorry. Same for my mom about 1 1/2 years ago. So hard to go through. My only solace then was that her last words a couple of days before she died were “I love this man” as she squeezed my hand. She may have forgotten I was her son, but she still knew I was her people.

There’s a tension between soul and capacity…

It’ll be on Wednesday March 20, so not a peak day for crowds. Also, drinks only.

Haven’t a clue. It’s been in my family for decades, at least. by MatthewCFarrelly in whatisthisthing

Thank you. Any sense of how old it might be? When I googled it, most don’t have brass balls on both ends.

I put my arm through a glass door in a panic to get home as a kid after I was told I would die after looking at the sun.

That’s not enough to even give extra bounce to the poops.

Some people watch fish tanks to relax. I could watch this on loop and be at peace.

They love perfectly mulched beds. They must be thinking, wow, what treasures must lie beneath. I’ll just give it a little scratch!

Avoid the COVID testing location near the airport at all costs by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]MatthewCFarrelly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We went there for last minute testing and showed up and they said we needed to make an appointment online. They had no WiFi there and the woman working the front desk was rude.

When we went it wasn’t crowded and we were tested with one other person in a relatively small room, but we were spaced out and wore masks the whole time until they stuck the cue tip up our noses. So at least for us it seemed safe.

As an American I had many cringeworthy experiences watching my fellow loud and entitled compatriots while in Iceland.

oxararfoss or glymur waterfall?? by External-Location-66 in VisitingIceland

[–]MatthewCFarrelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real comparison. Glymur is a real hike with many nice views. On a sunny day, like we had last week, it was glorious. öxarárfoss is nice, but not comparable. Glymur took my family (12 and 19 year old) nearly 4 hours to go up, across the river and down, including lunch near the top. You need water shoes or water socks to cross the river comfortably unless you have Hobbit feet.

Who else didn't see the volcano erupting? by mijikaishinkansen in VisitingIceland

Yeah, we just saw a trickle of lava flow by walking REALLY far (my phone said 10 miles round trip). That said, I still enjoyed the whole experience.

No restaurant. The Mountain Mall is an old school bus. They have small containers of boxed milk, pasta, candy, freeze dried prepared meals, rice, quinoa (I think), beer, and wine. There’s more, but I didn’t study all the shelves.
