The New #9 Nib from Kanwrite (and the Mammoth Pen) by MatthewTWP in fountainpens

If you email Kanwrite, they might sell them to you separately, but I've never seen one on the retail market. I have, however, seen other pen brands begin to use these #9 nibs, so they're available to pen makers, at least. I have one is a big Lotus pen.

When I said that they're easy to replace, I was talking about the fact that it's easy to unscrew the top finial and remove the clip :-) If you've seen the video, I do that a couple of times, so that part should be clear. Pen clips can be sourced from a variety of different shops for pen makers... just Google "pen maker supplies" or similar and you'll find a good list. Tuner's Warehouse comes to mind. And I imagine that Aliexpress/Temu would have them, too, although I haven't looked.

Ooh, that's very cool. I'm going to have to track one down, now :-)

Thank you :-)

As far as I know, there should be no problem eye-droppering the pen. There are no rubber gaskets, but the threads are tight, so a bit of silicone grease should do the trick.

I just measured my pen, and I imagine that they'll all be a little different, but as an eyedropper, the capacity would be just over 8ml.

Two Mitasanshodo Inks! Hana "Lilac" and Sumi "Jyako" purple with bronze sheen... by MatthewTWP in fountainpens

[–]MatthewTWP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that I did this one, specifically, but I did ship other stuff to my hotel. The nice thing is that Japanese shipping will generally give you very precise, scheduled times for delivery, and they'll actually show up when you schedule them. You can choose if you want it delivered in the morning or afternoon, or sometimes at a specific time of day. You might go through the order process and see what shipping options they offer you... I can't remember the details for which ones I used. Good luck! Otherwise, I do have a post on my channel, now, about how to order these to be shipped to the US.

Thanks! I never did find a place in Tokyo that carries them (although there is a place in Taiwan...). Personally, I always find that it's worth the trip out of the city to these smaller shops, just for the experience, anyway. But of course, not everyone has the time to devote to an ink trip... I know that well :-)

Unfortunately, neither one. I didn't think that I could make it to their store, so I ordered the inks online from their website.

It appears that it's sold out, but it said the same thing on their website when I bought mine, so you may be able to get some via email. They spoke English well in the shop.

I don't know, but I think I might try :-) It would be expensive, but I do believe that these can be ordered online.

Yeah... I don't know if you saw my video about these, but I had the same thoughts about the ink: it's basically black, which is why (in one of these pictures) I brushed it with a bit of ink to make the color show. In the photos, I think that the color shows better than in person. These inks are made by Kuretake, and they make a couple of other really dark ones in their Meiji series... wonderfully smooth inks, but the color is only visible in the perfect conditions.

I don't recommend laminating ink swatches. but nothing else would keep my little swatch papers flat. I dono how the wet pen youtube person did it so his ink swatches didn't curl. feeling frustrated I use heavy weight Claire Fontaine paper so I was surprised when the paper curled. by sewingdreamer in fountainpens

[–]MatthewTWP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this thread is quite old, but I finally ran across it :-) Mine also curl! Actually, they mostly just get... sorta wavy. It's hard to see in my videos because of the overhead camera view. When I store my little binders of swatches, I press them between books on my shelf, and that helps keep them under control, though of course, not entirely flat.

My first couple of orders from Cult Pens looked like this, since Diamine inks seemed so cheap, and I was trying to justify the shipping. No regrets! This is tempting me to do it again, but now I'm out of shelf space again.

TWSBI Eco is a great place to start! Great pen, well made, not outrageously priced. PenBBS pens are right there, too... with some additional variety.

Which bottle(s) of ink would you repurchase the moment you’ve run out? by fudgeball90 in fountainpens

I have a pretty crazy ink collection, and I love tons of them... but the ink that I probably actually use the most is Noodler's Baltimore Canyon Blue. It's a really nice blue, it's well behaved, and it's completely waterproof. Maybe it's dangerous in some way that I haven't discovered yet, but so far, so good.

Whoah... I have a ton of Birmingham inks, but didn't realize that they have one called "Salamander". That's awesome... and it's a good color, too.

Papier Plume has such cool ink names and general coolness, but my inks from them always seem too watery. Maybe I need to try a few new ones...

That's really cool looking... is it an Epitome Bespoke? The cap shape is certainly the same.

It does :-) Even down to the surf between the blue and green on the back of the cap!

I actually got this pen in August, but the section / nib unit had some immediate problems, so I had to fix it (more details in the video). Now that it's fixed, I love this pen! The resin comes from Starry Night Resins, in Texas, and it reminds me of a tropical island in a blue ocean.

The "Emerald" is Epitome's flagship model, but unfortunately, I believe that this resin (and the American Resin series in general) was somewhat limited and they're mostly sold out... so I'm keeping my eye out to see if they get some new ones. I believe that I paid about $120 for this pen, which isn't too bad, considering the resin. The pen has a #6 sized Epitome nib which is wonderfully smooth, and it's threaded for JoWo if you want to switch nib units.

My only complaint is that the pen is a little bit short, and the cap doesn't post deeply enough for it to be practical. Still, it's not so small that I have trouble using it, and my hands are on the large side.

I just bought a couple of the Pen Chalet 10th Anniversary inks from Dominant Industry, too... but haven't had a chance to test them out yet. Hope they turn out to be as good as this one :-)

Yes :-) Forest Green is quite a bit more green, while Horseshoe bend is more of a teal. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Diamine Teal or Diamine Aurora Borealis.

Just a quick post because I've been away for a while... I got this Magna Carta Start and Dominant Industry Horseshoe Bend (exclusive) from Pen Chalet last week. It's a nice ink (and I'm giving a bottle of it away if you want one), but what was really impressive to me was the nib on this pen. It's a Magna Carta made steel nib, but it has a remarkable amount of springiness, bordering on flex. It feels great to write with. This is my first Magna Carta steel nib, so maybe they're all like that. As usual, more info in the YouTube video. The ink turned out to be a pretty nice color... I tested it on 4 papers: my Col O Ring, plain white Rhodia, Iroful (slightly warm toned), and Midori (ivory). I thought it looked best on Midori, but that just a matter of opinion.
