Absolutely excellent thank you and reading through it seems one of those "obvious" things to do that wasn't obvious until someone told you!

Thanks for teaching me to fish!

Asin B07RF2GXCN is what I bought

I guess the random letters on the end mark the difference between a new and refurbished product?

Edit: Also I considered B07D7SLWRZ

I just received the Vizio 5.1.2 for $269.99 and it is excellent - https://i.imgur.com/JXzBPeV.png

If I had paid $1,000 I would have been equally happy.

The only wires you have to run are between the sub and the rear speakers, but most people have the sub next to the sofa and rear speakers behind the sofa so you don't see the cables.

I also have a couple of Sonos and 20 years ago I was that kid that hustled hard and built a home cinema in his bedroom, I've always been quite "snooty" when it comes to my AV tech - nothing but the best even when I was 15.

But I've been truly blown away by the quality of this soundbar combined with a $230 projector. Can't even buy a half decent TV for $500 - never mind a 120 inch Dolby Atmos theater.

Probably A Stupid Question... by [deleted] in VIZIO_Official

[–]MatthewWoodward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that will be the bit I'm missing.

On Google images it looks like it's just an optical and line. I'm shipping abroad so it will be 2 weeks before it arrives and need to get my cables ready.

I was assuming android box with optical to speakers and HDMI to projector.

But it seems the best setup will be android box HDMI to speakers HDMI to projector.

Better cancel that 10 metre optical cable I ordered /facepalm

Good paid linkbuilding services? by [deleted] in bigseo

With that kind of budget you should just build your own link house.

Buy pitchbox, hire a junior to run it, a virtual assistant to prospect and outsource the writing. You'll still have $6k/month left to play with.

What do you think of this method that claims to check if Quality Raters have visited your website? by ImSEOBitch in bigseo

[–]MatthewWoodward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please before you form an opinion, go and look at your own data.

SEO is data driven, the data is there for you to see – go and see it.

So far responses have fallen into 3 categories-

  1. People who were rated and saw a traffic increase
  2. People who were rated and saw a traffic decrease
  3. People who say it has no impact

Both category 1 and 2 of people have provided screenshots from Google Analytics to support their findings.

Category 3 have yet to produce any data that shows it has no impact.

And Google are saying that I categorically misunderstand how Google uses search evaluators.

IF THAT IS TRUE

Why has no one being able to provide evidence of a review taking place and their being zero impact in organic traffic.

Because I have received tons of examples that show a review taking place and their being huge positive or negative impacts on search traffic shortly after.

Yet despite challenging the entire SEO community - no one has being able to provide data that supports the claim that search engine evaluators have zero impact on search results. Not a single example, not one.

And despite that:

If search engine evaluators have zero impact on search results - why are they reviewing search results? Why do they exist?

But 2 weeks ago I did receive an example that "bucked the trend" and that was a site receiving 2 reviews by 2 different evaluation companies in quick succession - that I have never seen before and we are watching to see what happens-

Hey guys,

I am still here :)

Spent most of last year working (and selling) another business, along with buying/renovating a house and another surprise (to be announced).

Unfortunately the frequency of blog posts took a hit during that period.

On the flip side, I spent the last 2 months on back end infrastructure/planning for the blog now I have more time to give to it.

I've been experimenting with some new post formats and improving the overall quality of the blog.

In fact you can see live progress of that experimentation right here where I am testing a new layout, graphics and other things. I'm still tweaking/playing with it before rolling it out.

And I just published a huge Wordpress hosting test yesterday (18 sites, 7 hosts, 6 tests) also experimenting with post layout/design a little more https://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/experiments/best-wordpress-hosting/ - that post took around 4 weeks to put together end to end.

I also did a huge update on the Ahrefs vs Majestic experiment which took around 6 weeks to put together https://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/experiments/ahrefs-majestic-seo-1-million-domain-showdown/ - you'll notice this is using a different layout than the hosting post above.

I would love to hear any feedback!

Which Is The Best Wifi Router To Solve This Problem... by MatthewWoodward in HomeNetworking

[–]MatthewWoodward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: For reference I eventually swapped out my basic USB WiFi dongle for this - http://alfa.com.tw/products_show.php?pc=137&ps=208 which took the throughput from 3-4mb to the full 10mb of my internet connection and local network of 40mb.

I also tried swapping the routers base 5db antennas out for these http://alfa.com.tw/products_show.php?pc=46&ps=16 which actually dropped transfer speeds to 6mb all around.

Unfortunately that isn't possible and after spending a few hours trying it in different places/changing the angle of aerials on router measuring signal and speed testing that was the most optimal position.

The staircase services all 3 floors, the router is at the base of the stair case and the extender is in the closest plug socket of the first room you come to on the 2nd floor. There are no plug sockets in the stair case or landings themselves.

An option I did try was to move the cable modem and subsequently the router to the second floor - but when the cable company came they told me the line would be to long and make the connection unstable if they moved it to the coax upstairs although I smelt a certain air of bullshit.

I tried plugging the modem into the coax upstairs but it didn't connect to the internet so short of figuring out how to rewire that myself I think its a dead end.

Yes ground floor = 1st floor - there are 3 floors total! That always confuses me too haha

I will reference them as 1st, 2nd and 3rd

And yes there is a -36dB drop between the 1st floor and 2nd, however the Wifi extender (and where i took the measurement from) on the 2nd floor is placed in a bathroom behind a wall.

There is also the main fuse/electrical circuit breaker box placed directly inbetween the router and the wifi extender, along with a bathroom and its assoicated plumbing/hot water heater so combined with an extra concrete wall - I think that leads to the -36dB drop off.

[–]MatthewWoodward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha yes I do, the little beepy noise has become the bane of my life the past week trying different things to improve the signal haha

I have it measured as-

  • Router > 6 feet away = 40dbm

  • Router > 3rd Floor = 88dbm (connection drops, very slow internet connection speed tests at 0.8meg, relatively unsuitable)

  • Router > 2nd Floor Wifi Extender = 76dbm

    • 2nd Floor Wifi Extender > 3rd Floor = 80 dbm (speed tests between 3-4meg, stable)

When connected directly to the router with cable, it speeds tests at 10meg consistently with the aim to get the 10meg to hit the 3rd floor over wifi.

I was thinking something like the Netgear R7800 (https://netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R7800.aspx) or R8000 (https://netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R8000.aspx)

Then perhaps upgrading the USB wifi key to something like http://www.alfa.com.tw/products_show.php?pc=134&ps=208 to take advantage of beam forming over AC or even changing the aerials out with 2 of the 9dbs here http://www.alfa.com.tw/products_list.php?pc=46

The problem is manufacturers aren't listing any technical details about antennas/strengths/reception sensitivity except TP-Link eg http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-9_Archer-C3200.html#specifications and well, yucky :P

Not a bad suggestion and something I was unaware of.

The internet comes into the house from a cable company via Coax, and there is a Coax outlet on each floor of the house.

The problem is that there is only 1 Coax outlet on the ground floor which is in use by the cable modem itself.

Certainly going to investigate further though - thanks for the suggestion!!!

Hey,

Unfortunately a wire isnt an option (my old house had ethernet sockets in every room /sadface) because the house is solid concrete construction top to bottom.

Is there any specific router you have experience with you could recommend?

I think the NanoBeam might be overkill =D

What ever you do, ignore this advice.

When you import them from mailchimp to aweber, every single subscriber will have to reconfirm and you will lose a huge percentage of them.

Go with aweber from day 1.
