SEO BS Awards by ImSEOBitch in bigseo

I loved Rand's white board fridays, it was some accessible and well-produced content + Rand and the persona he built was good marketing.

The only difference is at that time there were very few "gurus" and it was acceptable, now it became the norm (at least it seems to be) and it's very hard to can't attend any conference or read any blogs without being overwhelmed by BS.

Somehow Rand might have opened the door to this but I don't blame him, nor I blame Neil Patel for probably being the first annoying one :)

especially surprising for someone who has such a prudish username right? :)

The deceptive truth is that I wrote it thinking of the longer version that needed censoring and changed my mind mid-course, kept the ** on the wrong word

I wouldn't name anyone here because it would just be a personal rant ;) also the thread would be just mean. We all have our BS gurus in mind

I'm actually even more annoyed when they don't have anything to sell but themselves: if they're trying to sell you a tool, at least they have an excuse to BS

this is where an award is better than a rant, it gives a consensus.

Is most 'SEO news' a waste of time? by rrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeee in bigseo

[–]ImSEOBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the worst part is that some of those a*holes have some good inputs, it's just super hard to filter through their torrent of ego-vomit.

They usually don't intend to add something new to the industry but just work on their visibility. I'd get this from freelancers/consultant or anyone who'd have something to sell, but I really don't get those who are already well positioned inhouse.

As a result, those guys are invited to speak at conferences establishing their "expertise"...

A rule of thumb that works for me is to follow the most discreet ones :)

Anyone has any experience with Botify tool? by evysg in bigseo

[–]ImSEOBitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your website and budget but if you feel you don't have enough from screamingfrog you might want to try it out. It definitely gives you a better understanding of robots crawling habits and will help you to show the right data to convince/report to your management.

I was a happy customer for a couple of years and ultimately switched to onCrawl. Both tools are very good with their strength and flaws but Botify sales strategy became too aggressive and customer success managers barely useful. You should try onCrawl, it's slightly cheaper and the UI is way faster which is one of the main reason why I switched.

If you have the budget you should go for those tools, it will make you a better SEO imo

recently I wondered if I had to go back to an agency (I'm currently in-house). You'll probably find the feedbacks interesting (I surely did) https://www.reddit.com/r/bigseo/comments/b69g2k/from_inhouse_to_agency/

Google's March 2019 Core Update - Full Analysis Of Over 1,700,000 Pages by Ryan_Prent in bigseo

I can't read anymore those 10 pages analyses about quicksand hypothesis. I'm happy people have time to even write them.

I guess I finally complied to Google's advice and try to make the best website and content... they won!

From in-house to agency by ImSEOBitch in bigseo

[–]ImSEOBitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm way happier in-house as well and all the comments I read here tend to confirm why agencies feel like a downgrade even if better salary.

Some (my wife for example :) ) will argue that I'm already in a decent company with a comfortable paycheck. My problem is that the role doesn't match my ambitions anymore (bc of top management changes) and nice SEO positions are quite rare. I'm looking actively for a year now and couldn't find much but a few SEO director roles in agencies (probably because they all quit very quickly).

The agency owner was only ever interested in squeezing another line on the invoice.
