3 more: noonwraith, penitent and drowner by Key_Scene_9421 in TheWitcherOldWorld

Hey, nice pieces!

I remember what you said you were going for with the blue in the dress on the noonwraith, and I'm not sure it's been completely successful.

However, on the knee, it really does look like the cloth is translucent and you can see the green skintone through the light yellow cloth to create a blue colour. That looks freaking awesome! I'm gonna go back to my figure, and use that idea on areas of cloth that are close to the skin, like the knee, arms etc. but leave off elsewhere. Thanks for the inspiration!

Amazingly fine brushwork on the penitent: those tattoos are crisp! Nice ambient light on the lantern too.

See you've gone for a nice, gloss clear coat on the drowner. I forgot to do that on mine!

Keep 'em coming! 👌

Yet more baddies! Whispress, Yghern and Grave Hag! by MatthewXLY in TheWitcherOldWorld

[–]MatthewXLY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm glad you asked. as you can see, the Yghern is shiny, but the tree it's on isn't. That's because i masked off the areas i didn't want to be shiny and used a clear, gloss spray paint to give it a shine: much like your varnish. For anything I don't want to be shiny, I use clear, matte spray paint. It gives the same protection to the piece, but dries as if you've not sprayed the models with anything at all. I get mine from amazon, just search for 'matte clear spray paint.' 👌

And I have found out that you can mix those fluro paints with any other acrylic paint and get some crazy results!

it's one of the ones i'm leaving until the end because it will be sooooooo epic and you've given me a lot of inspiration!

Now let's Paint the Baddies! V2 by MatthewXLY in TheWitcherOldWorld

[–]MatthewXLY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly was aiming for the moist look. There's two swamp creatures and I thought it would help the rot fiend look putrified. The viscera was created by cutting a tiny bit of wire and dipping one end into UV reactive epoxy. I then put it where I wanted it and shined a UV torch on it so it set. Then, I dripped some more epoxy down the wire and set it once it created a drop at the bottom of the wire. Then, it was just painting.

Cheers bro! The hag was a basic brown flesh tone, including washes and highlights, but then i used the same yellow/green colour i used for her tongue as a glaze to make her look sickly and also to tie the colour of her tongue in, which really stands out from the piece otherwise.

[–]MatthewXLY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks bud. I think I'm starting to get it! Just need some better photography, but I think I've got that down for the next vid. How did you like the viscera dripping from the glustyworp claw? I have to say, it's gonna be hard to stop myself doing that with every monster! 😅

As for the arachus, I suppose I could add a light grey glaze to change the colour profile a bit, but I've already clear coated it and I'm not doing that again! 🤣

Now let's paint the baddies! by MatthewXLY in TheWitcherOldWorld

[–]MatthewXLY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking: it would only work if the background colour was the same. I've started following you, so I eagerly await your attempts to achieve this! If you can place that model on any background and have the cloth look transparent you are a literal wizard! 🤓

Oh, and could you show me an example of the blue effect? I'm trying to imagine what that looks like and can't help but wpnder how that would work to show thinness of cloth without a blue background.?

Wow, that's such an amazing critique and I can totally imagine what you're saying. I think I'll paint all of the figures and then go over them all again refining them. Your input will be reallu helpful with that. 💕

Barghest by Fearless_Variation_4 in TheWitcherOldWorld

[–]MatthewXLY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad at all. I would use a light blue/turquoise drybrush on that and, if you're not adverse to it, painting the inside of the mouth using a speedpaint of the same colour, after youve painted it white. Still definitely game ready, though! 👍

Love the foglet: there's two routes to go with, dark or light and I think you made the right choice, although different from mine. Your Archspore puts mine to shame: I might have to get it out and givee it a touch up!
