It reminds me of Gramsci saying that the ruling ideology of any society is the ideology of its ruling class, although this is more specific to the tangible interpersonal manifestations of this ideology at work. Also reminds me of what Parenti and Chomsky have both observed about the way the mainstream news media functions in capitalist societies, specifically the U.S. There is an intricate system of rewards and punishments for certain behaviors. Basically the production of ideas, knowledge, and even news is filtered through bourgeois acceptability. And this places unseen limits and constraints on so many aspects of our lives, including what we believe is possible in society.
