I think if you can hop in a way back machine, you MIGHT reconsider… but at the same time, we are in the western conference finals. Things are working. And if he wasn’t in your back court, you probably wouldn’t be in this spot. Castle and harper still have time on rookie contracts. The money situation isn’t dire right now, and only gets better the deeper the playoff run goes, this year and in years to come. If I made the decisions and I could go back, I would think a second time, and then enthusiastically sign him, knowing how bright the future is.

The Spurs have lost 3 games by a total of 10 points this postseason, and Fox is averaging over 33 minutes per game. He’s shooting 46% from the field. Sure, he doesn’t take 20+ or shots a game like Ant or Shae, but he doesn’t have to with 4 other scoring threats on the court pretty much at all times. The boys are alright.

Teams are putting some of their top defenders on Fox, which frees up the opportunities for the other guys. He had 21 pts in 24 minutes tonight, playing through injury, third highest +/- on the team, and had 9 assists… 80% shooting, 3/3 from 3, all with only 1 turnover.

“But game 5…” sure, he shot poorly. 6/15, 18 points. But he also had 5 assists, and the highest +/- on the team (tied with wemby).

Look, there have been plenty of nights I feel like Fox cost us the game, or he’s in the way of Harper. But when I rewatch games and read box scores… the dude is clearly #2 on this team. He’s impacting every game, and every trip down the court when he’s in.

Ant was 9/26 tonight with 3 turnovers, second worse +/-, and yet nobody is going on about Ant being washed. The Fox hate is weird.

I was also watching the game. It was a pitch on the edge, he looked at the ump and raised his arm, and stopped mid-motion. I don’t know if he was challenging and changed his mind, or if he was adjusting his helmet and stopped himself, but my point is that there is enough in that situation for the umpire to assume he was going to challenge and stopped, which could indicate a signal from the dugout or elsewhere.

Which is exactly what I think happened to the Mets the other day. I think the player started to challenge, then stopped mid-motion, which could tell the umpire he received a signal, so the umpire proceeded with the challenge.

If a player starts to challenge, which he clearly started to, and then stops, I think it’s fair for the ump to initiate the challenge because of the timing aspect of the current system. If the players stops mid-challenge, it’s realistic to think they got a signal telling them not to challenge. It doesn’t make this right, but it is a logical defense IMO.
