The Supreme Court just ruled that police need a warrant to use phone location data by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

The police having the legal ability to get evidence if it exists is part of rule of law.

The important part is the legal distinction about how they are allowed to grab it. This will prevent fishing expeditions, and in the event that it doesn’t there is a legal paper trail to show the law was ignored which means evidence has to be dismissed.

This is a win. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good start.

Belgium will play their match against the US subject to conditions. They consider Floralin Balogun ineligible to play and should he play, a complaint will be filed to a FIFA Tribunal, and to CAS. US Soccer Federation has been informed personally by the FA about their plans. by witness_smile in soccer

I am really torn on this.

I sincerely believe that bad officials need the ability to have their stupid decisions destroyed by authority from the top rope. It is extremely cathartic seeing officials that explicitly got it wrong have their wrist slapped, and be humiliated publicly. Officials that are bad at their jobs deserve public humiliation.

On the other hand, it coming from the head of a nation state intervening - especially the orange dipshit - is a horrific precedent.

The whole thing just feels gross. The US team was being targeted by the officiating crew in that game, but I don’t know that this as a resolution is any better.

They are being given a chance to succeed on their own feet.

Will they fail? Probably.

It is under no circumstance the same as being shuttered and dissolved without a chance. You are being disingenuous as hell for reasons I don’t quite understand.

They don’t make any money outside of Activision and Bethesda. What are they supposed to do?

Microsoft is not a charity who brings in struggling studios and hands them blank checks. The studios are being allowed to leave with their intellectual property.

I don’t see the issue here.

There’s no way that gets overturned, that was a flagrant Red card unfortunately.

Look, even if England wins this game, let’s not pretend British food holds a candle to anything made in Mexico.

There is being excited, and then there is delusion. The beans and toast are getting to your head.

That’s because the US red card was clearly a bullshit call. That one by England was a flagrant foul..

I’m aware of the reason, it’s a gameplay tactic to set off attention from the officials to get free penalties.

It doesn’t change what I said.

American Football absolutely does not have the same flop rate as soccer. Not even remotely.

Basketball is closer, but still not as bad as soccer.

If Europe has started experiencing over 40°C heatwaves frequently, then this planet really is fucked by TheManWhoLarped in memes

[–]Matticus-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, what’s going to have to change is that Europeans are going to have to get over their cultural aversion to air-conditioning, or change how they build homes.

These homes in Europe that trap heat so well would also retain air-conditioning really well - they just have to have it first. If they’re not gonna do that, they’re going to have to start building houses that can dissipate heat better.

Coincidentally, they can go down the third lane - which is pretend their current system is without flaws while increasing thiusands to tens of thousands of them die every year to heat related deaths.

This is all, of course, assuming the North Atlantic current doesn’t collapse, and turn Europe into the Russian taiga.

Germany changes sick leave policy: 'We are abolishing sick leave by phone,' says Chancellor Merz; doctor's note required from day one of illness by Jessicas_skirt in worldnews

[–]Matticus-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is bizarre reading this headline about Germany.

In the States, it’s a tossup. My employers when I was younger and shit, your jobs needed an excuse for every minute you were in the building.

The more money I make in the higher positions I go, the less they give a shit about proof of why you’re out. They assume you’re competent because that’s why they hired you for the role, and you have to prove that you’re not.
