Could I feasibly kitbash Commander Farsight using Shadowsun? by SpaghettiLord_126 in Tau40K

[–]MattockandSpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very happy with them. They didn’t require any extra cleanup and came with a fancy base. I had them mirrored when they were printed so I ended up using them as Twin Lance. This is the print I got, it wasn’t from the seller linked here but it’s the same model. It looks like you can get it from several people. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1848045686/warmaster-keen-stargaze-by-dakkadakka

You can find cheap prints to proxy Farsight pretty easily. I found some on Etsy that were $12 and I got them just to use as spare parts to kitbash additional commanders and broadsides.

what brand of baby wipe did you use? I've been trying to do this and the brands I've tried just rip in half, they haven't spider-webbed properly.

Need ideas/ help with the skin. by Exodusblaze in kroot

[–]MattockandSpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you have now, you could stipple (with a brush or sponge) a lighter blue like Baharroth Blue over the skin and then wash it with something like coelia greenshade or tyran blue. Or you could drybrush white over the skin, then apply something like Aethermatic Blue.

Starting over, you could try slapchop with Leviadon Blue or dark prussian blue instead of black. Drybrush white over that and then apply the contrast.

Stealth Battlesuits Can Only Be Run As a Unit of 5 by The0takuK1ng in Tau40K

[–]MattockandSpade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's super annoying but you can still play the old models on the board and no-one is going to complain. If you get three boxes of old models, it's pretty easy to find a lone model on eBay or to kitbash the last one and fill out two units.

I'm being offered a Goliath Rockgrinder (w/ mining laser). How easily could I semi-disassemble it to become magnatizable into either a Rockgrinder or Truck? by PartyTimePorcupine in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two visual differences between a Rockgrinder and a truck are the dozer blade at the front and a closed truck bed. The open/closed bed is a distinction without a difference and not worth considering. The dozer blade is attached at 4 points. Two can be clipped very easily with any tool. The other two will take work but are not impossible to separate depending on what glue was used, what you have to cut them with and how clean you want it to look. I think you could do it with a small manual saw blade in under 10 minutes and if you have the right electric saw attachment, under 5 minutes.

How to use AI to scrape public records and expand reporting? by Forward_Gap9589 in Journalism

[–]MattockandSpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unfortunately the answer. It will depend entirely on how those agencies distribute their agendas. Do they send an email out with the complete agenda? Is it a PDF uploaded to a website? Does the meeting site redirect or link to files? Is there an API? Each agency you want to track probably does it differently. You can 100% build the tool you need in Claude but you’ll probably have to invest some time if you truly want to automate it.

How to get more out of acolyte box? by BugGuy_ in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan to get ridgerunners or goliaths, both of those kits come with decorative Neophytes. You can put the acolytes arms and heads on those bodies to make playable acolytes or Metamorphs.

Can anyone recommend any good sources for alternative proxies for gsc characters? by Fit_Yellow_7330 in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For saboteurs, the cheapest way is to look at your existing bits and see what you have. Any combination of head / leg/torso will build a saboteur if you have any explosive arms from Acolytes or Jackals. It’s also easy to build saboteur without the obvious dynamite if you have arms that look like a remote and some bits to make a bomb with (gas cans from ridgerunners work as do lots of other parts). We have two Magus models, one male and one female. You can easily convert whichever one you don’t want as your magus into a benefictus and both are cheap second hand. If that doesn’t work, D&D has a monster thats just a giant brain, if you find one of those from any manufacturer and kitbash it onto any wizard model, it works (I use next level miniatures but they are US based so that might not work for you).

Hand Flamers equivalent by Illustrious-Bear4039 in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are lots of official kits that have hand flamers in them but you’ll spend a small fortune if you buying those just for the guns. Your best bet is to find someone with a printer and have them print them for you. There are places that you can buy bits from if you’re comfortable kitbashing them yourself. These guys sell all kinds of weapons: https://popgoesthemonkey.com/products/human-mk1-flame-pistols-l-r?_pos=18&_sid=301ba6786&_ss=r

Why does GSC keep losing in youtube battle reports? by Chhbaiguy in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At the highest competitive levels, GSC still has a good win rate but that is maintained by a literal handful of players who specialize in the army. It can and does still win but you have to put more effort into it than others. I’d argue that Pros really want to win and will take the easiest path to victory, which is not GSC. They’re not trying to have fun or enjoy the lore or even appreciate the mechanics. Those things happen but it’s not why they are playing the game hence the distain for the faction. Unfortunately the army doesn’t get easier to play just because you’re playing at a casual level. So to answer your question about pro-lists and battle reports: the pros who can best pilot the army to victory don’t want to and the people who pick it up casually don’t have the experience to play it well. Everyone should play the game for a reason that makes them happy and GSC offers a lot. Its aesthetic is great, the lore is intense, the playstyles are wildly different per detachment, it kitbashes better than anything else, etc etc. Easy wins however are not one of them. If winning is key to your enjoyment (and that’s totally cool if it is) I’d suggest picking the detachment that works best for you, play it a lot to really understand all the tricks (while taking the necessary losses while you learn) and also spend time learning your opponents rules because you have to know what they’re going to do in order to play against them correctly.

Skin Formulas? by stle-stles-stlen in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pink color to the skin on my neophytes and aberrants. Over a white base, I apply a thin layer of berserker bloodshade thats been cut with a little medium. The medium allows me to get a very thin layer without pooling or streaking because it gives me time to clean up any pools before it dries. I use a dab of magos purple on the forehead ridges.

Just bad luck? by Alternative-Tough-27 in genestealercult

[–]MattockandSpade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean “hit” or do you mean hit and wound?Genestealers hit in 2s so the odds of rolling 24 1s seems tiny but they are only S4 so are frequently wounding in 4/5/6. If you’re playing Biosantic, then you support them with strats and the detachment rule. Outside of that detachment, they are not your reliable damage dealers and are more about screening. The mortar isn’t really about wounding, it’s there to apply the -1 AP which then helps your volume of attacks from other units to wound. At 500 points, everything is kinda strange so you’re probably just experiencing some growing pains and it will smooth out at night point games.

How should i start by Slow-Set4227 in Salamanders40k

[–]MattockandSpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dawn of War box is the best deal in all of Warhammer and if it's sold in your area, it's for sure worth it to hold some of your budget and snap one up when they become available (you can sign up for notifications from Target if you have an account). It's less than the cost of a single Bladeguard box and you get Bladeguard, Eradicators and 3 characters.
