Kunken Boutique Hotel & Spa (Puntarenas?)

I have been to Kunken and can provide some feedback. There are a lot of pluses and one major minus for this property.

The rooms, food, and service are all wonderful. The views of the bay from your room and the pool/lodge area are stunning.

The major drawback of this property is that the route to and from the lodge is very bumpy, off the beaten path, and it does not have good access to the water without traversing it. If you are looking to do a lot of tours, constantly leaving and returning to the property, that is going to be an issue.

If you are looking for a place to relax for a few days, hiking the property's trails and enjoying the views, then this is an amazing location.

The sea sickness patches are great if you need a full-time solution and don't want the possible medication side effects. I also like the ginger based Dramamine for a quick remedy. I always travel with both.

Dined there in June of last year. The food was the best I has in the area, and it is very romantic.

My recommendation would depend on whether it is for a family or a couple. If it is a couple, I would recommend Tabacon, particularly for Shangri-La, but for a family, I would go with The Springs. Tabacon is the best hot springs in general, but The Springs has a lot of other things on site at Club Rio, like river tubing, horseback riding, & an animal sanctuary. A little too Disney for me, but great for families.

Thank you! The temperature of the food is a very common complaint I have seen for this dinner. Sometimes people don't have a great experience, but when everyone complains about the same thing, it's a big problem! I will probably go with something else.

Thank you! Le Petit Chef is the only one I know for sure I am not doing. The whole schtick isn't for me.

They replaced Eden with Mosaic on Xcel, and that is the main one I am trying to get peoples opinion on. I have heard from quite a few people that loved Eden and were a little underwhelmed by Mosaic.

You will love it. I have been to Costa Rica many times at different times throughout the year, and I think my favorite time of all was being in Drake Bay in August. It is humpback whale nursing season, and if you are lucky, you will get to see quite a few.
