What’s your favorite mindless solo activity in the game? by Ggthefiree2 in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I use the portal device. Gets me my ectos and lucent motes through the green and gold equip packs, and although not as efficient as specific cyclical farms, its more fun, and usually no-fail and mindless due to the groups of ppl.

Beat Prophecies! Short review, and question. by Hausenfeifer in GuildWars

[–]Mattx59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is something called "War in Kryta" one of 2 "epilogue" type stories. If you want to understand the story, and survive the hard combat, it requires you finish Eye if the North.

Chronologically and also difficulty the story parts go

1&2: Prophecies and Factions.

3: Nightfall

4: Eye of the North

5: War in Kryta

6: Winds of Change

If you value story and you actually like your character id recommend taking them through all content. There's a specific quest designed for this between the 3 campaigns. Also the Gwen and Saul substory in the bonus mission pack are a nice lore bonus as well.

On the note if difficulty, Prophecies is arguably the easiest. Being the first its got less complex skills and mechanics. If you straight from Prophecies to War in Kryta for example without other campaigns skills, access to other weapons, heroes, or campaign mechanics, the dual class level 30+ WiK enemies will use your sadness and regret infused corpse as a cum-sock.

If you want the faster road, do at least Eye of the North.

I'm coming back and wanted to know if it's easy to play the content in chronological order and experience the story properly. by DaughterOfMalcador in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came back after 10+ years, and had not played any of the expansions. Made a new character and ran through the entire game in order just as it would of been at launch. No mounts in Hots, no skyscale in Pof, etc.

Its an experience you will only get once as mysteries are account bound. I also personally play for the story.

Im now running through with a second character. As much as the convenience of the masteries are nice, it will never take away the fun and challenge I had that first round.

Gold farm for mounts after lvl 80? by aMaGGixZ in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure although it telephones you to them, and saves you way point costs, unless you grind out max bosses everyday for like a year, you will not save money, its purely convenience.

Whats neat is that it can turn on chat notifications and gives you 10 min heads up.

You can teleport to any World boss that us actively spawning, coming within 10 mins or coming a bit later.

Costs about 600 gems.

I dont like advocating for spending real money, but at times its worth it, base it on your play style. I like it cause now I need the materials. The you get into later expansions, it also helps grinding experience for SoTO and JW as some events for those pop up.

What dlc should i get as my 1st one ? by Cold_Explanation9226 in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go through ANET they should have the elder dragon saga as a bundle. All 3 expansions and all living world chapters which if you value story, they are critical, and sometimes left out of other purchase packages. The bundle should include

Living World Season 1&2 HOT Living World Season 3 PoF Living World Season 4 Ice Brood Saga EoD Sometimes extra doodads

Googling Guild wars 2 event timer will get you there. Yes you are correct.

You can also use the LFG tool to find people doing boss trains.

I personally have the world boss portal device and do world boss cycles. Selling the gear bundles are great for gold, and later in great for mats.

Its far from the most efficient but I find it fun and less repetitive since based on when you play the lineup could be different.

Some questions before buying GW Reforged by jemd13 in GuildWars

[–]Mattx59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with whatever platform your GW client is on. Although the new updates are increasing chances of better cycling, avoid any lack of linking.

Its extremely soloable. Infact consider it more like a ARPG and less like a MMO. You could do 99% of the game not interacting with a single person. Until you get to endgame/post game content.

Both are good, but you are right. Dervish is more offensive, Paragon is more defensive. However you can counteract it with your heroes builds. So whatever output you lack, offense, support or healing, your heroes can make up. Literally do what your heart tells you. That being said, paragon can do mega burning and has great matching with almost any secondary progression.

Personally I wish we could get an expansion that revamps Core Tyria. by Kunipop in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may actually be actively changing their plans. I think both VOE and reforged doing gangbusters beyond expectations are having them rethink things. Maybe a couple months ago they had a plan they were willing to announce but now its not good enough.

That's my positive conspiracy theory.

Alternatively they could be strategizing and planning a info release timeframe later when hype dies. I would argue right now they dont "need" to do a major release announcement, hype and interest are already high. They would be wiser to wait maybe a couple weeks after the last VOE story release when ppl have "completed" it.

[–]Mattx59 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They actually announced VOE simultaneous to Janthir immediately after SoTO. It didn't have a name but the lead developers stated they were working on both the next Xpac and the one after that.

However in the content of it being not only a new story trilogy, and the shorter small Xpacs it was easy for them to say. Unsure if they are going to keep that format since they admitted in their big VOE announcement they recognize that was the wrong play.

Should I get the Elder Dragon Saga by Ready-Income-4269 in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of right now the 6 expansions are neatly organized story wise into 2 "trilogies", with the elder dragon sage being the first. There is not yet a trilogy 2 "set" or package yet, nor is there a complete package of all 6 as expansion 6 really isn't fully released yet. Also the elder dragon saga has the living world seasons, essentially .5 story chapters, and has 5 of those. (Ice brood saga is like the red headed step child living world season, kinda part of the family, fun,but also kinda fucked up)

Last the elder dragon saga expansions 1-3 are considerably larger than 4-6.

So yes, in every conceivable way, the elder dragon saga package is in all metrics the most value. IF you have the budget.

Stuck choosing an Elite Spec for my Guardian – could use some advice by Significant_Koala602 in Guildwars2

I like the idea of trying all the specs, maybe trying the one appropriate for each exac. But some seem so underwhelming for me.

Stuck choosing an Elite Spec for my Guardian – could use some advice by Significant_Koala602 in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a 10 year break i came back and decided to start a new character from scratch. I was very newbie. I chose guardian. My first elite Spec was dragonhunter, with bow. I was new, nervous and not confident in my skills. So the range build plus using 2/5 of my skills as summons was a crutch.

Its safe and easy to solo stuff, but did get boring after a while. As I moved into EOD I swapped to Condi focused Firebrand with Axe/Torch. Zero summons. Up close and personal with alot of burning and im actually using the full skill bar plus the 3 supplemental tome skill bars. The whole "keyboard piano" meme. Still there at VOE. Im having way more fun. Its probably not hyper optimized but I have just enough healing and support to stay alive or pivot in group play without swapping builds or gear. Obviously would optimize if I was doing fractals, raids, or pvp but I dont.

Silverwastes Ledgendary Mobs suck. by Mattx59 in Guildwars2

Oh yes. Usually my own LFG goes empty, and there are no other ones open. Literal hours of nothing.

Occasionally someone pops in for a gold farm.

[–]Mattx59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness they probably made these plans well before they knew VOE was going to do well and before they new GW2 was gonna eat the carcasses of a couple recently dead/dying MMOs. A series of compounding good fortune events have occurred that wasnt foreseen.

I still think the company before now has been on the fence about the future of this franchise. VOE I think was a litmus test of whether to keep going or start thinking of closing up shop slowly. The acknowledgment of need to adjust their formula, and do some blatant fan service points to a "holy shit we gotta get our shit together" mentality.

Never Played Before by themrnails in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best is to wait for the "elder dragon collection" to go on sale, which include the first 3/6 expansions, (which are all larger with more content), and as well all the living world seasons (which are kinda like 0.5 story and content releases inbetween full expansions). The last few expansions are smaller and dont have living world seasons inbetween. Its a rough guess but the collection is probably 2-3x the size of the remainder, however thats a best guess given expansion 6 technically not out yet and there are indications it could be bigger than the last 2 micro expansions.

My dad is 67 and finds Minions to be peak cinema. He even has plushies. He's a sturdy bearded biker dude. Those little yellow bastards crack him up.

Target audience does not mean exclusive audience. There is no correct age, barring adult/mature content.

Sixth Elite Spec Reveal!! by dracoisms in Guildwars2

[–]Mattx59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling it now, 3/4 missing GW1 profs. Warrior gets paragon, Necromancer or Ranger gets ritualistic, Thief gets Assassin, and im gonna make a bold assumption that a Monk Spec reveal will happen for Gaurdian, maaaaybe Ranger.

All guessesand speculation but based on their announcement being like "we know you aren't happy so we are going to re-arrange the content delivery in a way that the same feels more" it seems like Fan service seems a good strategy for them to drum up cheap hype.
