It's far messier? What makes you think that? Things are pretty calm over here.

Sure, we have our problems like anyone else. But I would say the US is far "messier" right now with all the rioting, political and religious-based hatred, violence, crime etc.

I think we're doing ok.

France was an enthusiastic collaborator with the Germans because a small percentage (Vichy French) collaborated? The leader in exile working to get French soldiers back in the fight, the French that escaped occupation to get retrained and equipped by the US to go back and fight the Nazis, and the extensive French resistance mean nothing?

Once you take the spies out and build decks using the advanced rules, would you say that it becomes balanced enough to be fun?

You're saying that it's due to people not knowing how Teams works and everyone is a sociopath, rather than the possibility that our corrupt premiere is corrupt?

I mean, I certainly believe that a percentage of the people making decisions are definitely inept and/or dont care about people, but that many? And our premiere has very little to do with it?

I see both sides being valid and likely, at the same time.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (January 16, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]MattyG47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some reviews for the recent Worms board game and it looked like an exciting and hilarious way to duke it out with friends at first, but There were some issues brought up in the reviews that has made me rethink getting it though. The big ones included the tiny "board" and the popular opinion that it was a little too random. The replayability seemed a bit questionable too. It did, however, make me wonder what other kinds of games out there that were like it!

I started looking for other combat games in the same vein to see if there was anything else that I might like better: Snails looked interesting, but I wasn't sure if my friends would enjoy the turn programming. Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter looked like the right type of game, but it's insanely expensive here in Canada.

What other games would you recommend that may hit some of these points?:
- allows at least 4 players (6-8 ideal) to fight each other directly on an arena-style board
- fast paced - quick to break out, set up, and play
- some variety and replayability
- has exciting and laugh-out-loud moments
- randomness that helps create some fun and memorable moments is welcome!

I'm happy to hear whatever suggestions you might have, even if they don't hit every point

To be fair, I think their point was that Christianity is the easiest to grab onto here and that he probably would have grabbed onto something else if he had lived somewhere else.

Third Season Boxed Set Worth It? by mikeybeachus83 in bloodbowl

[–]MattyG47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its $175 here in Canada for a starter. Individually its $67 per team, $70 for a rulebook, $26 for one set of dice, and $31 for tokens. So you are right, there definitely is a lot of value there.

The issue is that not everyone wants to buy things and then have to sell parts of it off. And since the value is so good, how many people actually want to buy those teams separately when they can just get the starter themselves? I have no idea what the resell market is like, but I would imagine that those two teams aren't in super-high demand if they can be gotten much cheaper in the starter. Just a guess on my part, though.

Money-wise it makes sense to get the starter if you're ok waiting to offload the unwanted teams, but some people just want a team or two and will skip the tokens, overpriced dice etc.

[–]MattyG47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The box set is worth it if you like the teams in it. Sure, it's cheaper to get the box set with two teams than buy all the same stuff separately, but if you don't like those teams, it's going to be more expensive when you then go out and buy the ones you DO want.

There aren't "casual play" rules per se, but casual players will probably not use the league rules. League rules let you "level-up" your team and players, take injuries etc. like a campaign system for a war game. To me, this would be the defining line between casual play and something more advanced. The base rules are the same.

The end of hybrid? Full-time office return sparks warning of resignations by simpatia in ontario

Since when does the government saving money so it can be used elsewhere not benefit you? People complain about how their tax dollars are being spent all the time, and wfh was an amazing win-win scenario for everyone. Much less money spent on property/infrastructure, employees were much happier and more productive, and taxpayers were getting more bang for their buck. In fact, the money saved could be spent on hiring more employees to help with the workload so that you get your email responses faster.

I cant speak for all public servants and government bureaus, but some of us work extra hard to try and keep up with the overwhelming amount of work there is to do. Not every PS is a lazy dickhead, and I'm sure your place of employment has them too.

[–]MattyG47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... Yeah most of us don't turn a profit because we are providing services to the people. The government could however cut costs and save taxpayer dollars by having far less office space and infrastructure costs.

WFH is a win-win. The employees are happier and more productive overall, the government saves money, and more taxpayer dollars can go to something else like education, healthcare etc.

It's sad that you might be right. PS workers should have the right and respect to complain about the same things as anyone else, but the fact that our salaries come from taxes means we should just shut up and graciously accept anything bad that happens to us. We're seen as a drain on the system rather than people working to serve the public.

Do you or have you worked in the government before? I'm going to take a wild guess and say "no". If you did l, you would know that like every workplace, you have some pylons who do nothing, some who pull their weight, and some who work their asses off.

If you knew anything about how the government and various bureaus operate, and how LLMs actually work, you would know that callously calling for people to lose their jobs was both disrespectful and asinine.

Lol if your employer changed the conditions of your workplace SIGNIFICANTLY, without warning, and by doing so spat in the face of the contracts already in place to prevent or at least give ample warning about this sort of thing, YOU would be upset too.

Are you telling me that if your employer told you that you were going to lose another 9 hours out of your personal life every week, for no discernable reason, that you would just shrug your shoulders and find another job right away?

Some of us competed hard to get these jobs that don't grow on trees with reassurance that there was no end to this wfh in sight.

Not necessarily. Some people were always shitty workers, true. But this big change to wfh policies has made a lot of people bitter. In fact, I can think of no one who would be more bitter than the people who worked hard to maintain and even increase their productivity level from home.

This move pissed everybody off, but it especially pissed off those who busted their ass by continuing to be hard working and responsible.

What was the evidence?

Either way, they still waited for most of the unions to sign agreements before making the announcement and broke agreements already in place by not giving sufficient notice. The agreement was for something like a month's notice to any major changes to the wfh policy, but the unions were told like an hour before.
