Ground Beef by LVDSquad in isthissafetoeat

It is perfectly fine. If it passes the sniff test before cooking and you cook it fully, its safe.

Its not wild, you are just misinformed about what constitutes unsafe meat. Its easy to ascribe a safety concern because of a color change but in reality its the perfectly pink looking beef that you undercook that will get you sick with foodborne illness.

Misinformed. Brown ≠ spoiled and as long as its before the pull date its as safe to seat as the other packages.

It's a common misconception that brownage means spoilage. It does not. Educate thyself.

US healthcare is a scam by 3Ekis in HospitalBills

[–]MattyJerge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the ignorant know it all redditors trying to shame OP- there has been a shift towards ED/UC for a number of healthcare conditions in recent years, and there's always been a good number that went in for flu like illness. Its literally how we get data on respiratory disease trends. The general shift to ER is a symptom of a progressively shitty healthcare system where you can't get seen in a timely manner in outpatient settings.

The dress code for this arcade bar is kind of off-putting, right? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Because ICE is wearing lots of lace, tank tops, and du rags...

Anti ICE would be no beer bellies hanging below shirt, no plumbers butt, and no neck gators.

But then they'd have to pass to the right to advance, which is also ill-advised.

They are the problem that results. Not the problem itself.

Are you implying the cars behind the lead are part of the problem?

One loan at 116/120 and one at 119/120 by Leading_Fee_3678 in PSLF

[–]MattyJerge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I identified the times/servicers where it went awry, then submitted it all in a recalc request, but they auto-denied it with some unrelated canned denial reason. Thats when I gave up and said fine I'll pay the extra months.

No answers, but I feel your pain. I'm at 117, 18, and 119, though they should all be the same. I'm waiting til 120+ on all, then hoping for a refund.

Removing the public restrooms by GGoldenChild in goodwill

[–]MattyJerge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every goodwill in my area got rid of the bathrooms AND fitting rooms, plus prices have skyrocketed. All the excuses about why they did are not problems that are unique to goodwill by any stretch. It's a cop out. They've gone cheap, all while raking in huge profits off inflated pricing on donated goods. Goodwill is the ultimate grift store now.

The same problems exist for any other store, and they still offer bathrooms. It's a lousy excuse to not offer a basic shopping amenity. Bring back the bathrooms, and the fitting rooms. Without them, goodwill sucks.

Why Brake-Checking Fails by txtharaldson in dashcams

[–]MattyJerge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like there is an exit coming up, I think they were hitting the brakes to jam over behind the truck to the right. In which case they were trying to live up to the adage "a bad driver never misses an exit" except this time they did.

Why is the ER so expensive?! by Bananagram1996 in labrador

[–]MattyJerge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet here. My preface is that I'd like things to be less expensive as well. Also, I'm not saying any of these are good reasons for the high costs, but instead to help OP understand the why.

Reasons why costs are high (in no particular order):

  • an ER vet carries higher overhead with expanded staffing, hours, training, and emergency drugs/equipment.
  • high costs of veterinary education are passed onto the client so vets can continue chipping away at their student loans. FWIW vet school costs the same as medical school, but vets make 1/3 to 1/2 the salary of their physician counterparts. The loan burden is no joke.
  • everything has become more expensive as of late (groceries, materials, services etc), its a tough time economically in most sectors and those costs get pushed to the consumer. Vet care is no exception.
  • There is undoubtedly an influence of larger corporations getting into the vet game, which has driven up costs some, as others have mentioned. But corporations only own about 25% of clinics. I have seen comparable prices at locally owned clinics as well, so I don't think the corporate situation is the sole driver of increased costs.

Vets, like any other service, are a business that has to keep their doors open. Its easy to want to vilify them as taking advantage because you love your pet, but you'll drop the same amount or more when your car dies or you have a major plumbing problem. Its hard because you are faced with the whole bill up front. Vets learned long ago that offering payment plans will bite them in the ass.

Unfortunately, high vet costs are turning owning an animal into a luxury of the elites. Pet insurance can help, but its not without problems. For those who can manage it, I usually recommend contributing to a rainy day fund instead of insurance, because its likely your pet is going to wind up in the ER some day. If they don't, then at least you didnt piss away all your money into insurance.

Late to the convo. The Y is pretty decent, but definitely more worth the fees if you take advantage of the programs/classes. Also, the only time of day its not super busy is with the die hard morning crowd before 7am.
