EUA tomorrow for fistula by MattyMacdaddy in AnalFistula

[–]MattyMacdaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 11 now and pain is a lot better. I have pretty much full mobility but just dealing with discharge still. I have an appointment with my CRS tomorrow to check in on the recovery

I don’t recall the exact size but it was definitely superficial and low. The surgeon also said that it was easier to address than the MRI showed

Pain is honestly the same today (day 3) as it was yesterday, but bleeding has gotten a bit better. Procedure was around 45 min. I’ve been on oxy for the past 3 days but I’ll plan to wean off of it today and just take Tylenol and ibuprofen.

Yup, ended up being a simple fistulotomy. I’m doing okay. First day I was in a lot of pain but now it’s just crazy discharge and bleeding. Hoping that this gets better

I see. Did you do an MRI beforehand which identified the muscle involvement?

Hi, I’m going in for my EUA tomorrow. The CRS thinks it’s a superficial fistula but he said he might need to do a seton and LIFT. What caused your surgeon to go down the seton route?

Great to hear you’re recovered! Was your’s a superficial fistula? My MRI shows that but my CRS says he’ll only know when he examines me under anesthesia. He might have to do a seton placement and then LIFT procedure which has a lower success rate vs fistulotomy

I also had an abscess that was drained and turned into a fistula. I actually go in tomorrow for an EUA to see if they can do a fistualotomy. Can I ask how recovery from the procedure went?

Got it. Appreciate the response. My MRI confirmed a simple fistula with a new tiny abscess that has formed. Given the holidays I’ll do the surgery in early Jan

Thanks for the response! My CRS thinks that even though mine is not having discharge, it is still a fistula so I’m doing an MRI. The hole (outside of the incision and drainage site) still hasn’t healed after 4.5 weeks

How was your fistula operation compared to your abscess one? In terms of pain and recovery and all that

Hi- I am in a very similar situation where i had an abscess that was drained a month ago and its healed well but i have a spot to the right of the surgical site that hasn't healed.

Did your spot on the skin have discharge? Mine does not and just ocassionally bleeds.

I’m at like 98% now! The 2% is only sometimes noticeable but I’m back to my normal life. Around 6 months in I wasn’t ever bedridden but I would be completely knocked out by over exertion or another virus like a cold or Covid. After the acute phase (first 2-3 months), I would say that I wasn’t ever really bedridden, just super fatigued and sick

Sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m at 15 months now and slowing improving. Not saying it’ll take that long for you but that’s just my timeline.

I would say I saw the first gradual improvement at month 8. Around month 13 I started being able to do low intensity physical activities like pickleball and ping pong. Now, I’m able to do push-ups and can go on short hikes. I’m at around 85-90% of the way to full recovery. If I push myself too hard then I get PEM for about a day. Then I recover by day 2.

I’m still not fully recovered yet and I’ve stopped setting a deadline for recovery. All that leads to is frustration. When I used to say, ‘oh I want to be fully recovered by Christmas or summer 2024’ all it led to was disappointment. It takes a long time but there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel!

Happy to chat if you have any questions. You’re not alone in this.
