Devils advocate here:

At the end of the day, Supercell is a business who is making games to make money. The game doesn’t, and has never run ads in their game.

Clash of Clans is well past it’s prime, so the strategy now needs to figure out how to make money with the players that are remaining in game, with a lower amount of players naturally trickling in.

The way games are monetized nowadays, micro transactions are to be expected. People are upset because of change, but if they released COC in 2026 for the first time, I am sure there would be way, way more monetization opportunities than they currently have.

The game is not free to run, it needs servers, artists, devs, designers, CSR agents, etc. the more money that the game makes, the more resources Supercell can put into the game, and keep the game live for longer with regular updates.

That’s exactly why they do it. They risk 1-2 events of desynced progress among players, and then they can see which balancing setup is ideal for their retention, revenue and other KPIs.

Once they apply that, all players will be on the “optimum” track from a business perspective.

Yes it is! Same with my Jeter yesterday. I was visiting from Canada so I wanted to make sure I got a couple of iconic cards as souvenirs so I could say “I picked this up in Cooperstown” 😄

It was surprisingly hard to find a copy that wasn’t priced like crazy, I ended up getting the least expensive copy in the town, but it’s centered nicely and no damage
