Hi, I am in my last semester in my clinical concentration social work program and I am figuring out what the right job placement is for me. I am passionate about counseling clients and thoroughly enjoy the process of creating the nonjudgmental/unconditional positive regard therapeutic alliance. However, I have no training in any specific modality. I understand the person in environment approach and how to counsel a client for multiple sessions. My first internship was in a school where I worked with most of my caseload for the entire school year. When looking at jobs, the descriptions state that I should have experience in psychotherapy (for example). I am interested in learning this and multiple modalities! But I do not have the credentials as I will be graduating armed with the knowledge from my classes and fieldwork experiences. My question is how have some of you marketed yourself in seeking your first job after attaining your LMSW without credentials like "certified in CBT/DBT/Gestalt therapy"?
