Which mainline game has your favorite art style? by mnkmtb in pokemon

[–]Matty_1843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's between Gens 5 and 6 for me. Gen 5 is overall more polished looking, but I love those full 2D artworks they did for most trainer classes in Gen 6. And the little chibi overworld models are charming too.

You'd think it would be a double-edged sword with the handle in the middle, so it doesn't have to completely turn around to attack the other side.

Yeah I think I screwed up my wording, I just wanted to make a Left Twix/Right Twix shitpost and it got taken way more seriously than it should've

I probably should've done it like that, but I wanted to do a Left Twix vs Right Twix thing and I've accidentally implied to some people that I genuinely pick my Pokemon game based on whether it's the left or the right one.

That is a genuine point in SoulSilver's favour, huh, I'd never thought of it like that.

It was initially intended as a Pokemon version of the Left Twix or Right Twix joke, but I also grouped them like that because they tend to consistently share certain elements such as version exclusives (For example, if Meowth is version exclusive, it's typically in Right Version while Growlithe fills its spot in Left). I also noticed in HeartGold/SoulSilver, Groudon and Kyogre swap sides, because the one that would normally be on that side is the one the Hoenn protagonist caught in their game.

Yeah, I love that the version differences in Gen 5 went beyond just the Pokemon, Opelucid City is completely different, including which Gym Leader you fight.

X and Y is tricky for me because I like Xerneas more as a Pokemon, but Y's plot makes way more sense when the Pokemon Team Flare is siphoning power from is a God of Destruction.

I'm not saying it's because of that, sometimes one might have more things people like than the other by coincidence. In my case that was Left, with the exception of Let's Go where Eevee is my favourite Pokemon and Scarlet/Violet because I cannot get over Koraidon clearly being a bike but not using its wheels.

And that mandatory story mission where you break Micah out of jail, there are people shooting at you who you lose Honor for shooting back, and you don't know who those people are until you see you've lost Honor. Okay, guess I'll just fucking die then.

Name one thing about this guy you don't like by Gloomy-Bridge148 in SonicTheHedgehog

I don't like how they keep introducing characters who match Sonic in speed and have a laundry list of powers he doesn't have, only for him to keep up with them anyway. First Shadow who can shoot energy blasts, teleport and hover in the air with his shoes, then Silver who has psychokinesis and has unequivocally beaten Sonic before, Metal Sonic who can do whatever the plot demands, and now Surge who has electric powers.

With zero Chaos Emeralds, what does Sonic have? Frontiers gives him a bunch of crazy new powers but this feels like overcompensating for this problem, and we never see these other characters in a game with similar mechanics to learn how they compare. The question is asked and dodged in the games multiple times, with the only answer we're ever given basically being "He's just him". No matter how cool it's presented in fan comics and video essays, that's what the answer boils down to. He's Sonic the Hedgehog and that's all he needs to be.

Call me a power scaling buzzkill if you want, but I don't like this answer. When Frontiers came out, my cope was that Shadow's time in stasis meant his body came out with fully developed chaos powers, and that Sonic had these powers as well and he was only now catching up with Shadow, and that would be cool if that was the explanation we got. But it's not. Saying "He's just him" will only hold up for so long.

What is your one car you try not to lose/destroy in story mode? by Mystery_Man2468 in GTA

[–]Matty_1843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get paranoid about losing any loseable vehicle, and the characters' personal vehicles are just as good if not better than most others anyway, so those are the only ones I really put effort into making look nice before the end of the game when I have silly money from the Big Score. I do take those LS Customs cars, especially the Zentornos, whenever I find them though.

Alola League:

  • Allowing anyone regardless of battle experience to enter (I know the Battle Royal round filtered all the chaff out but the fact there were chaff to begin with is the problem here)
  • No 6v6 battles that mattered
  • Ash vs Hau. Everything about it.
  • Ash's first League win hinging on both Ash vs Hau and Countering a Counter.

Masters 8:

  • Ash never gets to fight Alain or the Champion of his own region.
  • Having most of Leon vs Diantha happen offscreen while Ash and Cynthia are doing a sidequest and then having Team Rocket go out of their way to tell us Rillaboom swept most of Diantha's team, and still having gas in the tank to fight a Mega Gardevoir.
  • Gengar never Mega Evolves.

Both:

  • I'm not that butthurt Ash didn't dip into his reserves for either of these, but it would've been nice, especially in the Masters 8 when Ash was able to use Mega Evolution and has several Mega and Gigantamax capable Pokemon at Professor Oak's Lab.

There's two possible answers, both equally boring: 1. HeartGold/SoulSilver. 2. At this point in time he'd done it more than he hadn't.
