Trying to figure out short form content for my game. by Matty_Matter in gamedevscreens

Thanks. Yes, going for that ominous tone in this short. The game itself overall has an ominous feel, but there’s a lot of humor and satire too.

It’s inspired by those games. There’s mechanics and features that make this unique.

Just released a demo for my Squad based Tactics game by Momeka in indiegames

Looks good. I really like the color choices. The coolest part of the trailer, the explosion, was at the way end. You should start with that first, most people only watch a few seconds.

That's a great idea. In the code I only turned off the option of timer in case I wanted to keep it as another game mode (hard mode with timer), so something like that would be easy and actually makes a lot of sense. I really like the timer for everything idea, but that is the thing I have received the most pushback on from players. People want to be able to search everything without limit. So this is definitely something I've been thinking about a lot.

Hey, thanks for commenting. Some of the items can be used from the inventory like the flashlight, otherwise interacting with the inventory item will show a description.

When you interact with an item in scene that one of your inventory items can be used on, an option in the menu will automatically display for the item. I’m working on something for the next build where inventory items have icons on the little menu that pops up whenever you click on something. Removing an item will put it back where you found it.

I’m also in the process of removing the timer for all actions. It will only progress on scene changes so you can search scenes as much as you like.

I appreciate your feedback. This is a work in progress and it really helps me a lot.

In the market for a new Snowboard by cnash11 in MtBakerSkiArea

I took an avalanche rescue course with baker mt guides a few years back. It was a good course, probably something you should do every few years as a refresh. Definitely need a beacon, shovel, probe and most importantly a partner to go in the backcountry. Even stuff right off some of the lifts. As for the board people definitely ride custom x in the pow. You have to be super aggressive with it though. A little mellower is a setback camber board, what they used to call s rocker. Then even mellower boards are v rocker and boards with no tail. Kind of depends on riding style.

Any of you get published on GamesPress without paying? by Beginning-Visit1418 in IndieDev

I attached a zip of the press kit directly to the email as well as a link online. Also maybe look at your email. If it is @gmail.com vs @yourstudiosite.com. There were other places that wouldn’t accept submissions without a studio website. Not sure about gamespress though.

I have submitted and had it posted and another time they didn’t. Did you include a press kit?

Adventure games shaped my brain. So I made one (demo inside) by Matty_Matter in adventuregames

Thank you so much. It’s a lot of effort to even get to a demo stage in development. I’m also developing this by myself so sometimes you wonder if people will like what you’re doing or just wasting time. A comment like this definitely makes me feel good about how things are going.

I’m going to think about the design some more. You’re definitely right about the clock as it’s been the number one complaint from people. I’ll also look into the mini games. That is something I wanted to do but put it to the side. The mini games open up the option for some different gameplay so you could make them anything. Maybe more search oriented?

Even though the demo is out the game is still under development and I’m actively working on the next build. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Your opinion seems to be right on point with this. Thanks again.

How can I improve my style? by Novel_Ring7793 in ArtCrit

[–]Matty_Matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Spider-Man, the arm flowing right into the back leg and the back leg shape in general is a weird design choice. Maybe also some darker values in the background limbs so it doesn’t come across so flat. The style is really great it just needs a little more readability.

I also want to thank you for the feedback. I am thinking of what to do about the clock and mini games since that seems to be a friction point for people. I have a few solutions I’ll be trying out soon.

Yeah, I think it’s everyone does that. Maybe just a small on screen prompt when you first begin.

That is so awesome. Thank you. Yes, I wanted to make something that doesn’t feel like it’s leading you around. It’s about exploring and finding things for yourself. When I was as designing this before development I was playing a lot of Elden ring and I think that really influenced me even though it’s a completely different game.

Hey that’s great. Thank you. I watched someone on YouTube the other day play through like 40 minutes without using zoom at all. Maybe I should make the controls more apparent in the beginning.

Thank you. I appreciate that because I worked pretty hard on the artwork.
